Zendon Alphonso Hamilton [2] (born April 29, 1975 in Queens, New York, USA) is an American professional basketball player that currently plays for Spartak Primorje from the Russian Super League, and he formerly played in the NBA.
[edit] Amateur careerHamilton, a 6'11" center played high school basketball at Floral Park, New York's Sewanhaka High School. [3] Hamilton played college basketball at St. John's University, where he was a part of the same recruiting class as SI cover boy Felipe López. According to an article in Sports Illustrated, an unregistered sports agent said that in 1994 he was paid $2,000 to ensure that St. John's center Zendon Hamilton reached the minimum SAT requirement for the school's college freshman eligibility standards. The article said that after failing to reach the minimum test score nine times, Hamilton traveled to Los Angeles' Lynwood High to take the test on his final chance to qualify. According to the story, Nate Cebrun a 51-year-old sports agent said that on June 3, 1994, Hamilton met him at the L.A. Marriott the night before the 6'11" center took his last SAT test. According to Cebrun, Greg Vetrone, an assistant coach at UNLV, and Gary Charles, the coach of Hamilton's AAU team, were also at the meeting in which he received $1,500 of the total $2,000 that he would eventually receive. [edit] Pro careerHamilton began his NBA career in the 2000–01 NBA season with the Los Angeles Clippers. He had previously played with the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA pre-season in 1999, but he didn't play in any official NBA games with Dallas. He has also played for the Denver Nuggets, the Toronto Raptors, the Philadelphia 76ers, the Milwaukee Bucks, and the Cleveland Cavaliers. He was signed on October 1, 2006, by the Portland Trail Blazers, but after the pre-season he was waived on October 25, 2006, without playing any regular season games with the club. In February 2007, he joined Śląsk Wrocław. In the summer of 2007, he moved to Russia and signed with Enisey Krasnoyarsk. [1] In 2008, he joined Spartak Primorje. [edit] References
