Zaytuna Institute (now Zaytuna College) is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) educational institute located in Berkeley, California, in the United States. It was founded by Hamza Yusuf and Hesham Alalusi in 1996, inspired by a commitment to revive and promote Muslim thought in a contemporary context. [1]

Zaytuna Institute’s new Distance Learning program provides communities and students around the world affordable access to the sacred knowledge being taught and preserved at Zaytuna Institute through the use of the latest in cutting-edge multimedia and Internet technology. [edit] HistoryThe Institute was founded in 1996 by Hamza Yusuf and Dr. Hesham Alalusi and incorporated in California as a non-profit, educational institute. In 1998, a site for an academy was purchased in Hayward, California. During the last four years, the site has been fully renovated and now serves as Zaytuna Academy. Zaytuna Institute has held several conferences bringing several leading scholars from various parts of the globe to participate. Several intensive programs have been completed as well as ongoing courses in the Bay Area.
