Zayra Enid Alvarez Dones (born December 11, 1978[1]) is a Puerto Rican born singer & musician, presently based in Texas. She competed on the CBS show Rockstar: Supernova in 2006, and was the eighth contestant eliminated on August 16.[2] She was known for her controversial outfits that she wore mainly during her performances of "Call Me" and on "867-5309/Jenny". On week 7, Zayra sang her original song Lluvia de Mar and Supernova liked it but still wanted her to sing a rock song. Zayra was placed in the bottom 3 for a third time and was eliminated due to Supernova not being able to see her fronting the band. She was born to Luis Alvarez Cruz and Ana Dones Torres and grew up in the coastal town of Arroyo. Along with her older sister Liza, she took part in talent shows and school plays. At age 14, she started playing in different bands on a quest for self-discovery.In 1998 she graduated with a bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering from University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez. Zayra also stars in the independent film "Lycanthrope". The movie features one of her original songs, "This Is Love", which can be found on the re-release of her album "Ruleta". Since leaving Rockstar: Supernova, Zayra has been working on new material and has formed a band, COBRALUSH. The band is currently working on an EP.[3] [edit] Albums[edit] Contributions to other albums
