Yuri Komuro (小室友里 Komuro Yuri) (born July 28, 1976 in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan) is a Japanese AV idol, actress, and author. She was one of the top actresses in the AV field during the late 1990s.[2]
[edit] Life and career[edit] Early life and AV careerYuri Komuro was born in Japan's Kanagawa Prefecture on July 28, 1976, Komuro comments, "I've always had a strong sexual awareness, even as a kid."[2] While still in kindergarten she asked a neighborhood boy to play with her breasts. Komuro recalls once, still at an early age, inviting a university student to give her a blow job before she knew what the term meant. She comments that the resultant experience with cunnilingus would today be considered a sex crime.[2] Komuro began studying for a career as a travel agent before she began work in the adult entertainment field.[3] Her decision to work in the AV industry was based on a desire to do something more unusual. "I thought if I did this," she comments, "I could change my life, Otherwise, I figured my future would be pretty predictable."[3] Komuro made her AV debut with h.m.p. on their Tiffany label in January 1996, the same month as fellow AV Idol, Miki Sawaguchi. Komuro continued working for h.m.p. for her first two years in the AV industry.[4] [edit] Later AVsIn January 1998 Komuro made her debut with Alice Japan. In the video, Sexy Butt, Komuro portrays an extraterrestrial who inspires interest in inter-galactic sexual activity from earthlings.[5] Alice Japan's Saint Prostitute had Komuro as a woman who plans to molest men on a train, but becomes a victim herself instead.[6] The same company's Inhumanity had Komuro attempting to shed her humanity through continual sexual activity. She performs fellatio on ten actors, has sex with ten actors, and concludes the video by sharing childhood memories with the AV audience.[7] In Anal Fuck, Komuro takes up a challenge to concentrate solely on activities dealing with her rear end. Examination, shaving, vibrators and enemas ensue until the video concludes with the actress fainting.[8] The concept behind Alice Japan's Queen Slut was to have Komuro seducing hapless men. The project goes awry, however, when Komuro herself becomes the victim of a "powerful group of molesters" before she can act her part.[9] In May 1998, Atlas21 director Kei Morikawa made Komuro's career the subject of the documentary Legend Of An AV Idol.[10] Morikawa again directed Komuro in the September 1998 cosplay-themed video NEO Bloody Uniform Connection 44.[11] Atlas21's November 1998 release, The Serial Fuck had Komuro as a bicyclist attacked by a gang of rapists.[12] At the height of her AV career, Komuro took advantage of her popularity to engage in a business venture. She lent her name to the advertising of a perfume which, it was claimed, was based on the smell of a pair of panties she had worn for several days without changing. The perfume was called "Asoko," literally meaning, "That place," a Japanese euphemism for the genitals.[13] In spite of her high earning, however, after retiring from the AV field, Komuro realized that she had not been very wise with her money. "I blew my money in all kinds of spectacular ways, What was left, I used to buy a car and personal computer. If I had saved the income from just three films, things wouldn't be so tight now. Life is hard for AV actresses once they retire."[2] [edit] Post-AV careerBy the time Komuro announced her retirement plans from the AV industry in 1999 with Last Scene, it was claimed, with perhaps some hyperbole, that she had spilled the sperm of some 20 million Japanese men.[14] Komuro later commented of this part of her life, "When I look back at my acting days, it was lots of fun. Just by following somebody's instructions to disrobe I could make millions, or even tens of millions of yen. I think back on the opportunity with a sense of gratitude."[2] Komuro's AV industry past was reflected in her role in director Masato Ishioka's debut feature film, Scoutman (ペイン Pain). In this gritty depiction of Japan's AV industry, Komuro played the role of Miki, a former tantai (star-quality) AV actress whose adult video career is kept a secret from her husband.[15] Kei Morikawa, Komuro's AV director from her Atlas days, has a role as an AV director.[16] The film was presented at several international film festivals, including the Venice Film Festival and the Toronto Film Festival.[17][18] It was nominated for Best Asian Feature Film at the Singapore International Film Festival, and won Ishioka the Directors' Week Special Jury Award at the Fantasporto competition.[19] Komuro starred in pioneering porn actress and director Kyoko Aizome's April 2002 film, Kyoko Aizome's Molester's Hospital. Komuro played the role of a lawyer trying to solve a case of serial rapes at a hospital run by Aizome. Alice Japan released the film in October in AV format with the title Molester In a Hospital.[20] Though she concedes, "Most of what I do has some sort of connection with eroticism,"[2] writing had always been one of Komuro's interests. During her AV career she had written a series of essays expressing her thoughts on topics such as friends, family, work, love, the AV industry, and sex. In December of 1998 a collection of these essays were published under the title Bare Faced (素顔).[21] When fellow AV idol Runa Hoshizaki gave Komuro an introduction, she began pursuing writing as a career.[2] Komuro wrote sex-advice articles, conducted interviews with sex industry workers, and wrote pieces which were serialized in journals.[2] In 2006, it was reported that Komuro had moved on to a second career in journalism, covering the field of erotic entertainment.[22] In spite of her life-long involvement with erotic entertainment, looking back on her AV career, Komuro says, "I never had an orgasm during a film shooting. Except when somebody worked on me with a vibrator."
