Yoshimitsu Onaga is a prominent Japanese Shōrin-ryū karate practitioner and instructor. His family is originally from Shuri, Okinawa, but he was born in China and returned to Okinawa as a child. He started his training as a young teenager and later met his life-long teacher Higa Yuchoku. For the next 35 years, he was Higa Sensei's uchi deshi.[1] He is considered one of the last Masters able to understand and teach Ti, an ancient, pre-karate Okinawan martial art. His current rank is the 8th dan. In 1988, Onaga founded martical arts school Shinjinbukan (later Shinjinbukai) and currently serves as its president. His daughter, Michiko, 6th dan, is head instructor. In 2007, Onaga was appointed as Latvia's Honorary Consul on the Japanese island of Okinawa.[2] He is an author of several videos and books on karate-do. [edit] Bibliography
