Yonder Alonso (born April 8, 1987 in Havana, Cuba) is a Cuban baseball first baseman in the Cincinnati Reds organization.^[1]^[2]

Alonso led Miami baseball to the top ranking in college baseball in 2008. In 2008, Alonso led all NCAA Division 1-A players in walks. ^[3] He was arguably the top hitter in College Baseball.^[4] Alonso would frequently work out at facilities at Miami with Alex Rodriguez.

Yonder went to the Cape Cod Baseball League in 2007 and played for the Brewster Whitecaps.

Alonso was drafted in the 15th round of the 2005 Major League Baseball Draft by the Minnesota Twins, but chose to attend college and play baseball with the Miami Hurricanes.^[2]

Alonso was drafted with the 7th overall pick by the Cincinnati Reds in the 2008 Major League Baseball Draft. He signed a major-league contract with the Cincinnati Reds believed to be worth $4.55 million through 2012.
