At the time of its conception, the ongoing comic was set for two story arcs, both six issues each. Both were set concurrent with the events of The Burning Crusade.^[1] It was originally titled simply World of Warcraft, and acquired its Alliance title at issue 26.^[2][3]

World of Warcraft: Special is a one-shot issue that will introduce new Alliance and Horde characters not yet seen in the ongoing series up to issue 25. It will be a jumping off point for the new Horde series and for a new story arc in the re-named main series which will be called henceforth Alliance.
