Woodcrest is a census-designated place (CDP) in Riverside County, California, United States. The population was 8,342 at the 2000 census. As of 2008, the population of Woodcrest is well over 15,000. The city of Riverside currently has plans to annex Woodcrest. This will make Riverside's population increase by about 15,000 and will put the city's population at 330,000 by the end of 2010 because Woodcrest will be annexed and other areas that will be annexed by Riverside.[1]

Woodcrest is located at 33°53′0″N 117°21′50″W / 33.883333°N 117.36389°W / 33.883333; -117.36389 (33.883366, -117.363825)[2]. Certain locations of Woodcrest reach higher than 2,000 feet above sea level.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 10.1 square miles (26.2 km²), all of it land.

A fictional Woodcrest is also the setting of the comic strip and animated series, The Boondocks. It is unclear as to whether or not it is Woodcrest, California, though it is assumed to be in Maryland, based on a ZIP code shown in one strip.

Woodcrest is also an equestrian community with many of its residences owning ranches and horses. However many new housing developments are being built in Woodcrest due to the increasing population of Riverside.

As of the census[3] of 2000, there were 8,342 people, 2,550 households, and 2,198 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 823.9 people per square mile (318.0/km²). There were 2,624 housing units at an average density of 259.2/sq mi (100.0/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 81.04% White, 4.56% African American, 1.22% Native American, 3.50% Asian, 0.24% Pacific Islander, 5.81% from other races, and 3.63% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 16.66% of the population.

There were 2,550 households out of which 38.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 72.2% were married couples living together, 9.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 13.8% were non-families. 9.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 3.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.22 and the average family size was 3.39.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 28.2% under the age of 18, 8.0% from 18 to 24, 24.4% from 25 to 44, 29.5% from 45 to 64, and 9.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 98.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.9 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $80,269, and the median income for a family was $83,125. Males had a median income of $66,473 versus $43,607 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $27,901. About 6.2% of families and 8.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 10.1% of those under age 18 and 1.7% of those age 65 or over.

In the state legislature Woodcrest is located in the 31st and 37th Senate Districts, represented by Republicans Robert Dutton and John J. Benoit respectively, and in the 64th Assembly District, represented by Republican Brian Nestande. Federally, Woodcrest is located in California's 44th congressional district, which has a Cook PVI of R +6[4] and is represented by Republican Ken Calvert.
