Women in Trouble is a 2009 American comedy film, written and directed by Sebastian Gutierrez, and starring a cast consisting of Carla Gugino, Adrianne Palicki, Marley Shelton, Connie Britton and Emmanuelle Chriqui.
[edit] PlotThe film focuses on what happens to ten women from Los Angeles in the course of 24 hours a day. A porn star, Elektra Luxx (Carla Gugino) discovers she is pregnant, her work, effort and race just after the recent news. Days later gets caught and locked in an elevator in the company of a neurotic woman named Doris (Connie Britton), what happens is a very crucial juncture in the life of Elektra. At the same time, an adult film actress named Holly Rocket (Adrianne Palicki) quits her job to do a private show with her best friend, Bambi (Emmanuelle Chriqui), then the husband a woman therapist, Maxine (Sarah Clarke) makes him unfaithful to her, causing a depression in the therapist, a flight attendant, Cora (Marley Shelton) is on a long flight with a passenger next to be a famous rock star (Josh Brolin) and a precocious young woman (Isabel Gutierrez). [edit] Production and sequelThe film is directed by Sebastian Gutierrez, production began and ended in Los Angeles. The film premiered at the 2009 South by Southwest Film Festival,[1] in the United States opens on November 13, 2009. The film has a sequel in production, Elektra Luxx, Gutierrez is returning as the writer-director, and the cast includes Gugino, Timothy Olyphant, Alicia Silverstone and Justin Kirk. Gutierrez is planning on making a third installment tentatively titled Women in Ecstasy.[2] which will be released in 2010. [edit] Critical receptionWomen in Trouble received generally negative to mixed reviews from critics. Currently has a certified "Rotten" rating of 26% at Rotten Tomatoes, based on 19 reviews from critics.[3] At Metacritic currently reported 43% of the positive reviews based on 9 reviews.[4] John DeFore writing for the The Hollywood Reporter "Gutierrez's script can not supply female characters as believable as Almodovar's, but in the director's chair he gives his cast room to compensate with funny, self-aware performances". Melissa Anderson writing for Village Voice he said "blue material mixes awkwardly with sob stories". Manohla Dargis of The New York Times called the film "The amateurish production values might be pardoned if the clichés - the hard-core porn star with the soft heart, the therapist who needs to heal herself - inside the poorly lighted, badly shot images were not so absurd and often insulting".
