Window-Eyes is a screen reader that makes a computer usable by someone who is blind or has low vision. It "reads" information by communicating directly with applications such as Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Word, etc., or by gathering information from the display adapter and the Microsoft Windows operating system. It then "speaks" it out loud through a speech synthesizer, sound card, or presents tactile information through a refreshable Braille display. Window-Eyes allows people to surf the Internet, send and receive e-mails, and to use typical business productivity software. Window-Eyes also allows people to read PDFs, Flash content on websites, or to use remote computer networking/terminal services. Window-Eyes 1.0 was released in October 1995 by GW Micro. GW Micro is based in Fort Wayne, Indiana. New versions of Window-Eyes are released approximately once a year. Window-Eyes 5.5 Professional was released in November 2005. Window-Eyes 6.1 Beta 1, including Vista support, was released January 30th, 2007. [edit] External links |
