[edit] School uniforms

Wilson is one of the few public high schools in the United States that requires a school uniform (one other high school, and all primary schools in the Long Beach Unified School District require school uniforms). The uniform is khaki pants, skirts or shorts, with either white or burgundy collared shirts. [1]. The school colors are cardinal and gold, and the school mascot is the Bruin. The school site committee has recently passed a highly disputed uniform rule which requires that all jackets be of school colors, as opposed to the old rule which allowed heavy jackets of other colors when merited by weather conditions. There is currently a student movement developing to challenge the new rule at future Site Council Meetings.

[edit] Sports

The Wilson Bruins baseball team were the Baseball America National Champions and CIF Southern Section National Champions in 2007 and CIF runner-up in 2008. Their boy's aquatics have also been historically successful. The swim team has been undefeated Moore League Champions for 36 years (as of 2008). The girls swim teams have successfully defended their Moore League title consistently year after year.

Bruin Waterpolo held the Moore League for 18 years straight (1988-2005), winning the league 27 out of the last 30 years. The team has won the Div. 1 CIF title 11 times and Mythical State Title three times.

Wilson's Soccer, Tennis, Badminton, Boys Cross Country, Baseball and Golf teams are also consistently among the top teams in the Moore League and in CIF titles.
