[edit] Non-profit organizations

Following the recent cfd discussion, I'm going to try to work on diffusing the contents of Category:Non-profit organizations into subcategories. If anyone wants to help, please do. --Eliyak T·C 03:10, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Awesome. I've been trying to give everything (a) a subject (in Category:Organizations by subject), (b) a location, and (c) a year of establishment. --Lquilter (talk) 08:23, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Charities / Non-profit organizations /Non-governmental organizations / etc.

Here's an idea: As a first step, Category:Charities could be renamed to Category:Charitable organizations to avoid the UK legal implications. Sound good? --Eliyak T·C 21:46, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

I like the idea very much, if it really does get rid of the legal implications -- does anyone know for sure if it does? --Lquilter (talk) 19:19, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Editing/Review Request?

I was wondering if anyone from the project would be willing to review the article for the Alabama Cooperative Extension System. While, as a whole, I think it may be a good article, it was almost entirely written by the PR person for ACES, so it has some neutrality issues and often reads like promo material. While both the PR person and an editor from the Alabama project have done a little work from it, I think a more neutral party would also help and I'm not versed enough in organization article formats to feel comfortable doing major editing myself. Collectonian (talk) 02:46, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Project template

I updated the {{WikiProject Organizations}} template for assessment. More work is required creating the related categories. There is now Category:WikiProject Organizations articles. (The template is related to that on Wikipedia:WikiProject Dance) Paul foord (talk) 09:49, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Center for Audit Quality - notable?

Not sure about this article, which is in the scope of this wikiproject. It was created by, and has mostly been edited by members of CAQ, and I'm not sure is actually notable enough for inclusion. Could someone else cast their eye over it? Fritzpoll (talk) 15:06, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] WikiProject Organizations: Articles of unclear notability

Hello,

there are currently 28 articles in the scope of this project which are tagged with notability concerns. I have listed them here. (Note: this listing is based on a database snapshot of 12 March 2008 and may be slightly outdated.)

I would encourage members of this project to have a look at these articles, and see whether independent sources can be added, whether the articles can be merged into an article of larger scope, or possibly be deleted. Any help in cleaning up this backlog is appreciated. For further information, see Wikipedia:WikiProject Notability.

If you have any questions, please leave a message on the Notability project page or on my personal talk page. (I'm not watching this page however.) Thanks! --B. Wolterding (talk) 16:00, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Non-profit organization

Why do the Categories for this article only show when editing? Kathleen.wright5 02:45, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

someone left the </ref> off Paul foord (talk) 12:21, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Re:Organizations missing subject classification

I've provided subject classification for the articles that were in the above Category. The only ones I could'nt find a subject classification for are We Are Family Foundation and Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation. Please note that I am not a member of this WikiProject. [edit] Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme

As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.

  • The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
  • The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
  • A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.

Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.

Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! For the 1.0 Editorial Team, §hepBot (Disable) 21:12, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Articles flagged for cleanup

Currently, 1106 articles are assigned to this project, of which 319, or 28.8%, are flagged for cleanup of some sort. (Data as of 14 July 2008.) Are you interested in finding out more? I am offering to generate cleanup to-do lists on a project or work group level. See User:B. Wolterding/Cleanup listings for details. More than 150 projects and work groups have already subscribed, and adding a subscription for yours is easy - just place a template on your project page.

If you want to respond to this canned message, please do so at my user talk page; I'm not watching this page. --B. Wolterding (talk) 16:23, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

[edit] UK charities - new external link templates

Hallo. I've just created two new templates, {{UK charity}} and {{Scottish charity}}. (Yes, I know the former is inaccurately named as it covers England and Wales: if I can work out the wiki technicalities I'll combine them into a single template at that name.) If you are creating or editing an article about a registered charity in England, Scotland or Wales, you might like to include this in the External Links - it leads to the record at the Charity Commission or Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator, which seems to me to be a valuable asset to the article, as evidence of its genuineness and a link to its accounts etc. They're similar to the templates for links to IMDB.

I've added them to all the "A"s under Category:Charities based in the United Kingdom, and will carry on extending their use to other pages eg Category:Charities based in England etc), gradually. AWB can't help much to semi-automate the process, as the registration number may or may not be included in the article already, sometimes isn't even visible on the organisation's own page (The Art Fund), and in one case so far I can find no trace at the Charity commission site (AfPP) so doubt whether it's a charity, and in another (Association of Colleges) so far have had to amend the article because it's an associated trust, not the named organisation, which is a charity. Interesting work!

If anyone can find me a similar online list for Northern Ireland charities, I'd be delighted - please let me know. PamD (talk) 11:28, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Request for article re-assessment

Hi there! I've been spending some time working on Toastmasters International, and I think it's really grown since it was originally assessed. You can see for yourself -- the originally assessed version is quite different from the current article. There's still a lot of room for improvement (and it would help if there were more external sources available online) but if only to give a feeling of validation to myself and the others who have edited the article for the past five and a half months I'd like someone to re-assess the article and perhaps comment on various ways I can make it better. Thanks! --coldacid (talk|contrib) 09:46, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

A shout out and thanks to Patrick Flaherty for reassessing the article. --coldacid (talk|contrib) 16:07, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

[edit] ESA

I've set up a new task force page and a portal on the subject of ESA as part of the wikiproject Europe. I'm interested in knowing if I can somehow integrate the task force into this project as well. Also I am in need of a lot of help, so anyone interested in the subject or even if you just know how to set up the categories for a wikiproject or TF is more than welcomed. U5K0 (talk) 22:55, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Stephanie Kuhen

Remember the 1995 gang killing of Stephanie Kuhen in Los Angeles? A lot of media reports were written about this case, so I wonder if I could write an entire article about it. WhisperToMe (talk) 01:06, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for Organizations

Wikipedia 0.7 is a collection of English Wikipedia articles due to be released on DVD, and available for free download, later this year. The Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team has made an automated selection of articles for Version 0.7.

We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. You can also nominate additional articles for release, following the procedure at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations.

A list of selected articles with cleanup tags, sorted by project, is available. The list is automatically updated each hour when it is loaded. Please try to fix any urgent problems in the selected articles. A team of copyeditors has agreed to help with copyediting requests, although you should try to fix simple issues on your own if possible.

We would also appreciate your help in identifying the version of each article that you think we should use, to help avoid vandalism or POV issues. These versions can be recorded at this project's subpage of User:SelectionBot/0.7. We are planning to release the selection for the holiday season, so we ask you to select the revisions before October 20. At that time, we will use an automatic process to identify which version of each article to release, if no version has been manually selected. Thanks! For the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial team, SelectionBot 23:10, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

[edit] United Nations peer review

A peer review has been requested for the United Nations article here. You are welcome to add any suggestions/feedback on how to improve the page. Many thanks, --Joowwww (talk) 10:10, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Request for small org guidance

Could two or three WikiProjectians comment on this please? I am concerned that an article on a smallish org is not getting proper treatment due to the fact that the majority of recent contributors to article and talk (5 or 6 of them) are org members, including myself. The question is: given a 600-member org which is the oldest of its kind and has a 1200-issue journal and dozens of New York Times writeups, mostly in the 1920s and '30s, where should the line be drawn between "all policy-compliant content is welcome" and "arguably policy-compliant content, also considered cruftiferous by a couple of the org's members, is unwelcome"? For instance, how should I treat the concepts of lists of notable members, lists of notable and otherwise nonnotable officers, and otherwise reliable content published by loosely connected parties? I am interested in all ideas anyone has based on your dealings with similar situations; please comment here. Thanks in advance! JJB 04:03, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Organization events

I'm guessing that since the charitable organizations are within the scope of this WikiProject, the fund-raising events that they sponsor would be as well - is that correct? For these events, I can't seem to locate an infobox for charitable organization events. Does one exist which I'm overlooking; or has the project discussed these before and decided that they are not needed?

I can create one, not a problem; but I didn't want to run into issues with the project, so wanted to check before I created one. --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 23:57, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Spelling variations

Just a heads up that you might be interested in a discussion over various European organiz/s/ation stub types at Wikipedia:Stub types for renaming/deletion. Thanks - Her Pegship (tis herself) 00:26, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

[edit] G20 major economies

I just added this projects header to Talk:G20 major economies, where there's a discussion going on about what the article's name should be. Thanks. 68.167.252.47 (talk) 04:29, 15 November 2008 (UTC).

[edit] Proposed deletion of Sub-Aqua Association

Sub-Aqua Association, an article within the scope of this project, has been proposed for deletion. Your comments on the proposal page are welcomed. --RexxS (talk) 17:48, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Coordinators' working group

Hi! I'd like to draw your attention to the new WikiProject coordinators' working group, an effort to bring both official and unofficial WikiProject coordinators together so that the projects can more easily develop consensus and collaborate. This group has been created after discussion regarding possible changes to the A-Class review system, and that may be one of the first things discussed by interested coordinators.

All designated project coordinators are invited to join this working group. If your project hasn't formally designated any editors as coordinators, but you are someone who regularly deals with coordination tasks in the project, please feel free to join as well. — Delievered by §hepBot (Disable) on behalf of the WikiProject coordinators' working group at 06:13, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Article alerts

This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.

If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.

Message sent by User:Addbot to all active wiki projects per request, Comments on the message and bot are welcome here.

Thanks. — Headbomb {ταλκκοντριβς – WP Physics} 09:31, 15 March, 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Notability of residential colleges

A RFC has been submitted on the best way to deal with the existence of many Wikipedia articles on residence halls and dormitories at colleges and universities that may not be notable. The input and feedback of editors of this policy would be appreciated. Madcoverboy (talk) 17:12, 28 March 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Washington Legal Foundation

I came across this article and tagged it with your project. APK thinks he's ready for his closeup 20:34, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

[edit] A Social movement as an organisation?

Have just been improving People's Health Movement which is actually more of a social movement which has crystallised into a network. Can we think of adding social movement to the 'Scope' section of the project page? Any thoughts? prashanthns (talk) 19:36, 7 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit] ASEAN needs cites

ASEAN was listed as a Good Article in March of 2007.

However, currently two sections of the article have been tagged "This section does not cite any references or sources" since May 2008, and another section since September 2008.

We should cite or remove this material. If we don't, we should de-list this article from status as a Good Article. -- 201.37.230.43 (talk) 16:52, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit] GA Reassessment of ASEAN

Hello, I am notifying all relevant projects that ASEAN has been reassessed as part of the GA Sweeps project. I have found the article to not currently meet the GA Criteria. As such I have put it on hold for one week pending edits to improve its quality. My review is here. If anyone has questions please contact me at my talk page. H1nkles (talk) 21:22, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Wikimedia market research survey

There is a quantitative market research survey about to get underway, now being discussed at Meta Wikimedia. Personally, I consider the effort thus far to be scattered and amateur, and I am trying to lend a hand with re-design of the drafted plan. If there are any Wikipedians here with experience in the design and execution of population research studies, please come help me try to get this on a right and steady course. -- Thekohser 19:10, 13 July 2009 (UTC)

[edit] lay organization

Hello, in editing medical articles many of the self help and support groups call themselves 'lay organizations', I had started a draft of a description a while back User:Leevanjackson/layorganisation but was wondering if this is covered by another type ( i.e. merge into an existing article or to start one of its own, or any other thoughts? L∴V 10:36, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

[edit] FAR of MSF

I have nominated Médecins Sans Frontières for a featured article review here. Please join the discussion on whether this article meets featured article criteria. Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks. If substantial concerns are not addressed during the review period, the article will be moved to the Featured Article Removal Candidates list for a further period, where editors may declare "Keep" or "Remove" the article's featured status. The instructions for the review process are here. Jclemens (talk) 05:37, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Org spam?

Please see Talk:Rivers_Without_Borders#Dangerously_close_to_org-spam. Various issues, doesn't quite read like an ad/brochure/SOAP but very close; maybe needs notability and advert tags.Skookum1 (talk) 13:45, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Ladies Aid

(cross-posted to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Gender Studies/Feminism Task Force)

We seem to have nothing at all about Ladies Aid or Ladies Aid Societies. I can find plenty online about individual Ladies Aid organizations, but almost nothing about such organizations in general: e.g. when did they first originate (some time in the first half of the 19th century, I believe), what was the sequence and timing of their spread geographically and among various religious denominations (and when were the first secular Ladies Aid societies formed), what roles did they fulfill at what periods (charity work in general, of course, but when did they first become involved in nursing work, for example), what would be the equivalent term for Ladies Aid in other languages where such organizations exist?

Not really my area, but a surprising lacuna. I suspect someone else will have a better idea than I will of where to start researching this. - Jmabel | Talk 06:46, 23 September 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Clayoquot Sound Central Region Board

This and other articles authored by contributors from EcoTrust Canada re the Nuu-chah-nulth people and their governments and organizations are written from an AUTO/COI perspective and are very directory and brochure/p.r. oriented. I'm not sure what's in and what's out could someone please have a look; also look for West Coast of Vancouver Island Aquatic Management Board and other articles in Category:Nuu-chah-nulth and its subcats.Skookum1 (talk) 18:41, 28 September 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Operation Day's Work

Does anyone have any experience with Operation Day's Work? It seems to be an international organization that is not so popular overseas (supported by non-English references), but the American branch seems to be a legitimate organization. Can someone familiar with NPOs or charities take a look at this article? Thanks, Pdcook (talk) 14:11, 8 November 2009 (UTC)
