This is the Categorization Task Force of Wikipedia:WikiProject Organizations. The page is located at Wikipedia:WikiProject Organizations/Taskforces/Categorization and it is transcluded onto the main project page.

Here we list particular categorizing efforts.

[edit] Specific category trees needing work

Charities, Non-profit organizations, Civic and political organizations, and Non-governmental organizations

• These trees all have significant overlap.
• We need to go through and do subject categorizing on all orgs within these trees.
• We need to develop a reasonable structure that encompasses these categories. See Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Organizations/Taskforces/Categorization#Charities, Non-Profits, etc.

by Location

The Location task force has been set up in order to coordinate efforts in that category tree. This includes "by country", "by city", "by region", "international"; and, for convenience while dealing with these structures, "online".

by Subject

• We need people to go through Category:Organizations into the various subcategories and, where an organization has no category for its subject, apply one. See Category:Organizations by subject for currently existing subjects, and propose new ones on Category talk:Organizations by subject. --Lquilter 16:05, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

other Categories

• "by type" and "by ideology" are two proposed structures that have not yet been implemented. "by ideology" is currently being discussed, in terms of political parties, at categories for discussion. The ability of this tree to move forward will be informed by that discussion. --Lquilter 16:16, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
• Category:Organizations by year of establishment and Category:Organizations by year of disestablishment. Every organization should have a year of establishment category added (e.g., Category:Organizations established in 2006) and, where applicable, a year-of-disestablishment category. The latter tree has not yet been set up. We need people to go through and add the years. This is important for keeping organizations in the general chronological system -- so that if someone goes through Category:1905 they will see organization establishments & disestablishments as part of the events of that year. Going through the Category:Establishments by year also helps turn up a lot of organizations that were not properly categorized in any organization categories. --Lquilter 16:16, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
