WikiProject Chicago was started on July 5, 2005, to coordinate work on articles related to the article Chicago and Chicago metropolitan area in the English Wikipedia. Some Wikipedians have adopted this as a project to better organize information in articles related to the Chicago metropolitan area and the city of Chicago in the U.S. state of Illinois. In December of 2006, we revived the Chicago Collaboration of the Week. It has, however, been inactive since January 2008. Please feel free to add your username to the List of Editors. Also, add anything that you feel require attention to the Open tasks section. If you have found a useful online source, please add it to the Resources section. The project's first featured topic drive is underway. Scope The Chicago WikiProject concerns the coordination, creation, development and organization of efforts on articles related to Chicago and the surrounding metropolitan area, especially Cook County, Illinois. To view a comprehensive list of counties that are within the scope of the Chicago Project see the counties section of the Chicago metropolitan area navbox.

Among the reason for a difference are: - The article was promoted before it was part of the project. Then at a later date a {{ChicagoWikiProject}} template was added and updated.
- The article was promoted, but waited a few days for a bot to update all the article's talk page templates.
- The article was promoted, but the manual process was not completed properly.
- The article was not properly promoted via the review process and templates were updated later by someone thinking the article had been properly promoted.
