The aim of this project is to standardize and improve articles related to alternative rock and its sub-genres, as well as to create missing articles. This project replaces WikiProject Indie music and expands its scope to cover both underground and mainstream components of alternative music. This project is not intended to cover all underground music, mainly that which developed after the advent of punk rock and has been termed "indie" or "alternative"; however, since such obscure topics might escape the notice of other editors or projects, they can be brought to the attention of participants of this WikiProject on the Talk Page.
