Project
The Alternative music WikiProject is a project, created on April 16, 2006, that helps to assemble editors interested in alternative rock and indie rock, as well as other forms of alternative music. The aim of this project is to standardize and improve articles related to alternative rock and its sub-genres, as well as to create missing articles. This project replaces WikiProject Indie music and expands its scope to cover both underground and mainstream components of alternative music.

This project is not intended to cover all underground music, mainly that which developed after the advent of punk rock and has been termed "indie" or "alternative"; however, since such obscure topics might escape the notice of other editors or projects, they can be brought to the attention of participants of this WikiProject on the Talk Page.

If you feel that you can make a positive contribution to the project, become a member by joining the list of members. If you don't know what to write or where to begin, or if you have doubts or ideas on how to improve an article, please address the project's discussion forum.

Goals
The goals of this WikiProject are:
  • To improve Wikipedia's coverage of alternative music, by creating and improving articles related to the subject.
  • Maintain and improve the alternative music portal
Relatives

In particular, I have a very comprehensive knowledge of U.K. britpop, shoegaze, indie pop and indie rock bands but there are quite a few U.S. bands that I’m knowledgeable about too. Additionally I have expert knowledge of R.E.M.. I am a stickler for accuracy and I'll help out anywhere I can.
sas556 (talk · contribs) I'm less knowledgeable about mainstream groups that play in this genre (i.e. coldplay), but I have a good knowledge of current indie groups, most significantly in the folk/ freak folk (i.e. The Mountain Goats Animal Collective) and punk/pop-punk genres. ParadoxBacklash (talk · contribs) People need to be set straight about what alternative is and isn't. The majority of what I have been into for the last 30 years is goth, alternative, and most anything else that evolved from punk.
