[edit] Purpose

A transclude text page provides a central location for text relating to a topic that is discussed in more than one style guideline article. The goal is to prevent conflict between the various style guides that discuss the topic. Until and unless there is consensus, transclude text pages should only be used in Wikipedia style guidelines.

[edit] Creation

NOTE: If you create a transclude text page please add its name to the list below.

The best way to create a transclude text page is to use an existing page as a guide. For an example of a simple summary page, see Wikipedia:Lead section TT text. For an example of a show/hide page that can be simultaneously used as main article text (with the show/hide text showing) and as summary text in other articles (with the show/hide text hidden), see Wikipedia:Accessibility TT lead section.

You should title the page "Wikipedia:[name of main article] TT [description of transclude text topic]"[1] For example:

Wikipedia:Accessibility TT lead section

[edit] Markup

NOTE: If you insert transclude text into an article then you should add the name of that article to the list at the end of the transclude page you are inserting.

As explained in more detail at Wikipedia:Transclusion, you can insert a transclude text page into a style guideline by inserting the title between curly braces. For example:

{{:Wikipedia:Lead section TT text}}

If a transclude page includes show/hide text you can have the transclude text display with the show/hide text shown by adding "|show=1." For example:

{{:Wikipedia:Accessibility TT lead section|show=1}}

[edit] Notes

  1. ^ The TT stands for "T"ransclude "T"ext and alerts readers to the nature of the page.
