Requests for page protection
Shortcuts:
WP:RFPP
WP:RFP
WP:RPP
WP:PADLOCK

This page is for requesting that a page, image or template be fully protected, create protected (salted), semi-protected, move-protected or unprotected. Please read up on the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection is usually used only to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars.

After a page has been protected, the protection is listed in the page history and logs with a short description indicating why it was protected, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. Further discussion should take place on the Talk page of the article. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins do not revert back to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Instructions

If you would like to request a page to be protected or unprotected, please follow the following steps:

  1. If you are requesting unprotection, it is almost always a good idea to ask the protecting admin first before listing a page here.
  2. Add a level 3 header (i.e. ==== {{lx|Example}} ====, where x stands for the namespace) at the TOP of either the protection or unprotection list and place one of the templates from the table below within the header. Please make sure you have spelled the name of the article properly; a common error stems from mistaken requests for the protection of redirects, particularly capitalised ones.
  3. If you are requesting protection, place the type of request (full protection, semi-protection, or move protection) and a brief reason for your request below your header.
  4. Please do not add arbitrary requests for a protection expiry time to your request, or request indefinite protection arbitrarily.
    • If there is a reason for a page to be protected for a certain amount of time, such as protecting a usertalk page until the user is unblocked, please make this clear.
    • If you are requesting indefinite semi-protection, be aware that it is only applied to articles with endemic and endless vandalism problems which multiple increasing periods of temporary semi-protection have failed to stop.
    • Note that different expiry times can now be set for edit and move-protections, so an article can, for example, be semi-edit-protected for a week and full-move-protected indefinitely.
  5. Sign your request with four tildes ~~~~ and save.
  • Note that this is not a venue for continuing an argument from elsewhere. If a request contains excessive arguing, is being used for edit-warring or content disputes, contains personal attacks or uncivil comments, or any other unrelated discussion, it will be removed from this page.

[edit] Kevin Trudeau (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Semi-protection: Near-constant vandalism and attack edits (the article subject is, eh, not a popular person) especially by anons, that violate WP:NPOV, W:BLP, WP:V, and various other policies, or are just outright vandalism. This has now escalated to sockpuppetry using multiple IP addresses, in order to avoid blocking. Very few IP-address editors at this article have ever been constructive, and the article is well-developed and (when not vandalized) balanced enough that limiting new edits to registered users (who have to face consequences if they editwar, sockpuppet or violate policies repeatedly) isn't going to cause any palpable harm. — SMcCandlish [talk] [cont] ‹(-¿-)› 18:17, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Anwar al-Awlaki (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Temporary semi-protection, I don't know if the level of deletions of appropriate material, etc., by IPs is yet high enough for semi-protection of this article about a person who is being focused on by the media right now (perhaps it is), but I'm especially concerned by this.--Epeefleche (talk) 08:05, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

Pictogram voting delete.svg Declined – There is not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection at this time. If there's significantly more disruptive activity in the future, consider relisting. It isn't, but I've watchlisted it and will react as fast as I can if I see the possible disruption starting. GedUK  08:56, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Sri Kripalvananda (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Temporary semi-protection, Many SPAs and IPs have been replacing the article with unsourced fluff recently. Not to say that it doesn't need work, but wholesale replacement of a biased though well-sourced article isn't productive. — ækTalk 07:35, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

Pictogram voting support.svg Semi-protected for a period of 1 week. After 1 week the page will be automatically unprotected.. The semi-protection will only really stop the IPs, the SPAs will autoconfirm tomorrow, and then be able to edit. Make sure they are warned about content blanking, and if they continue, report via AVI. I've warned one of the users. GedUK  08:54, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

[edit] 24 (season 8) (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Temporary semi-protection, Continuous additions of incorrect or unsourced information, most notably the addition that Tony Almeida is returning in the new season, which isn't in any news at all. Requesting semi-protection until January 17, 2010, when the new series starts. This will help stabilise the article for the time being. Might be worth semi-protecting Tony Almeida to that date as well. Steven Zhang The clock is ticking.... 06:23, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

Pictogram voting support.svg Semi-protected for a period of 1 week. After 1 week the page will be automatically unprotected. At this stage I'm not willing to protect for so long. As the series gets closer, there will inevitably be more sources available either way, so protecting for a week for now. GedUK  08:37, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

[edit] South Park Mexican (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Indefinite semi-protection vandalism, Since the second half of this year, every time protection expires it needs to be re-applied within a few weeks. Recently, many IP's have been messing up this article, and most IP's have been unconstructive here since the last protection expired in mid-November. Andrewlp1991 (talk) 06:13, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

Pictogram voting comment.svg Note: Not sure if recent activity constitutes pure vandalism. The article appears to have a mix of sourced and unsourced information and it and the IP editor was attempting to remove the latter. Although the editor did not use proper edit summaries for the deletes, the editor did attempt to inform at least one of the reverting editors of his or her intent. Unfortunately, the situation quicky degraded. I'd suggest attempting to engage the editor on the discussion pages if he/she appears again. -- Tom N (tcncv) talk/contrib 05:49, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

If you simply want to make spelling corrections or add information to a protected page that is not disputed, and you are not involved in any disputes there, consider simply adding {{Editprotected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. See the list of current {{Editprotected}} requests.

If you do want a page that exists unprotected, please try to ask the protecting admin first before making a request here.

Check here if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

[edit] Talk:Climatic Research Unit e-mail hacking incident (edit|article|history|links|watch|logs)

unprotection. reason provided is to prevent disruption from certain users and in ANI thread it was said user is a master sock who uses a variety of IP ranges. if s(he) is a master sock, than that user can certainly create accounts as easily from all those ranges, and i don't see what's the point of blocking other anonymous users like myself from directly participating in discussion. provided subpage allows me only to hope that someone will respond to my comments, while disabling me from responding directly to comments of users from the talk page itself. 93.86.205.97 (talk) 22:30, 1 December 2009 (UTC)

Pictogram voting delete.svg Declined The response at ANI is pretty clear: there has been an overwhelming amount of vandalism/trolling on that page, so the protection needs to stand. It's a pretty rare move, but is obviously necessary. Having to post to the subpage is an inconvenience, which is why you've been asked to create an account. (I hate to tell an IP that, but it's fairly true in this case) tedder (talk) 22:54, 1 December 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Current requests for edits to a protected page

Shortcut:
WP:RFED
When making requests here, either:
  • Provide a good reason for a substantial edit to a protected page. These are only done in exceptional circumstances, or when there is very clear consensus for an edit and continued protection. Please link to the talk page where consensus was reached.
  • Demonstrate that there is a clear dispute over a protected page, and that a specific dispute tag would be appropriate to add. Please link to the talk page where the dispute exists.

Note: Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add {{Editprotected}}, {{Editsemiprotected}} or {{Request edit}} to the article's talk page if you would like an inconsequential change rather than requesting it here, though most of these should simply wait for unprotection.

Indefinite semi-protection requested for this BLP. There have been unusual levels of vandalism over the last 30+ days (actually, the history shows no edits apart from vandalism and reverts) from Anon IPs and new SPAs. This presents a sustained pattern of attack with the intent of deleting or replacing reliably sourced criticism with information copied from the Share International website.
