This page is a place to list foreign language articles on the English Wikipedia, to see if they can be translated before they are listed on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. If someone speaks the language the article is written in and can state that it is not worth translating, the item should be moved to AfD or tagged with {{prod}}.

[edit] Standard procedures

If the article is a mere copy of (all or part of) an article in a foreign-language Wikipedia, it can just be tagged with {{db-foreign}} to get added to Wikipedia:Candidates for speedy deletion: we want to discourage people who cut articles from one Wikipedia and paste to another without translating. If the intent is to ask for a translation of an article from a foreign-language Wikipedia, the correct place to do that is Wikipedia:Translation. As an alternative, you can leave a message on the contributing user's talk-page using the templates from Wikipedia:Pages needing translation into English/Templates for user talk pages or using {{UE}}.

Sometimes, legitimate articles are replaced by foreign-language content. In this case, the last English-language version should be restored from the history.

If an article has been listed here for two weeks and is still untranslated, it should be moved to AfD. When moving items to AfD, the boilerplate text on the article should be changed from {{notenglish}} to {{subst:afd}} and the other deletion steps should be carried out.

When listing a page here, you might want to find the Wikipedia:Embassy or Ambassador member of the Wikipedia that relates to the language the article is in and invite them to move the page to their own Wikipedia. If you don't even know what language the article is in you could use Language recognition chart and if that fails, some language recognition web site, such as Xerox or What Language Is This? to find out. Please leave a note on this page if you do this to prevent duplication of messages. If you have come here from another Wikipedia, please note on this page what you think should be done with the article.

Please check for copyvio before listing here. (Articles which meet the criteria for CSD G12 can be speedily deleted with {{db-copyvio}}, others copyvios should be listed on WP:CP.) If you can tell what language an article is written in, that might help. Also consider posting the first line or so.

When a page listed here has been translated, its entry can be removed (or moved to cleanup if the translation needs another pair of eyes).

[edit] Boilerplate text

For a page that needs translation in its entirety (so it would be appropriate to delete if not fixed):

1. Use the notice {{Notenglish|NameOfLanguage}} if you know the language used, or {{Notenglish}} if you cannot identify the language of the page in question. The template will show up as:
2. Add a mention on this page, using:
{{subst:Needtrans| pg= | Language=NameOfLanguage| Comments= }}--~~~~ replacing NameOfLanguage with the English name of the language if you know which language was used, or {{subst:Needtrans| pg= | Language=unknown| Comments= }}--~~~~ if you cannot identify the language used
3. You may also choose to warn the contributing editor with {{Uw-english}}, the "use English" warning, or suggest to use a different language Wikipedia with {{contrib-xx1}}, where xx is the language code (available templates). An alternate template for identifying the article as having been listed here is {{uw-notenglish}}. Usage is {{subst:uw-notenglish|articlename|datein2weeksfromlisting}}~~~~. Bilingual versions of this template have been created for Norwegian, Spanish, and French. See the note on these at {{uw-notenglish}}.

If there is just a section that needs translation, that notice is inappropriate, so it's a little trickier:

1. Use [[Category:Wikipedia articles needing translation]].
2. Add an appropriate note at the top of the page in question, e.g.:
''Section [[#name-of-section|name-of-section]] contains text that needs translation into English.''.
3. Add a mention on this page.

If the article has been translated, but needs attention from someone approaching dual fluency in both languages:

1. Use the notice {{cleanup-translation}}, which will show up as:
2. Add a mention to the translation cleanup section on this page.

If you are not completely sure of what language an article is written in, check the language recognition chart.
If you are sure, consider placing the corresponding template on the creator's talk page.

[edit] Francisco Cruz

The initial language of this article was Mexican Spanish. Probably non-notable bio, found its way into WP:Template Documentation. Listing here just for notability, the English is not very good and it is not wikified, if another declares it non-notable I am happy with that. If it is at all notable, should move to cleanup section. Si Trew (talk) 14:44, 31 October 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Union of Fascist Little Ones

This is a verbatim paste of the Google Language Tools translation of the Russian WP article ru:Союз Фашистских Крошек, and it seems pretty clear that "crumbs" is a mistranslation(!), so there are bound to be others. The subject appears to be notable, but the article will need to be renamed. MuffledThud (talk) 12:48, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

I moved it from Union of Fascist Crumbs to Union of Fascist Little Ones, since that was the translation of "Kroshek" used in the main English-language reference cited in the article. Still needs cleanup. Hqb (talk) 11:04, 7 November 2009 (UTC)

And, annoyingly, it's Romanian with no diacritics. I've done a fair job of translating, most of it, citing for a little of it, and correcting a few things that were wrong (there may be more). "History" section still remains to be translated. - Jmabel | Talk 02:16, 9 November 2009 (UTC)

[edit] سون سمير

The language of this article is Arabic. Seems to be about a German person (deutsche), which is odd for an article in Arabic. Intelligentsium 23:42, 8 November 2009 (UTC)

The reason it's in Arabic might be that he was born Algerian. Anyway, the piece is a rant against him and Berbers or something like that (I used Google Translator), so I've put the translation on the Talk page and requested speedy deletion. —Largo Plazo (talk) 03:35, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
I discovered that the abusive text was not by the original author. I restored an earlier version without the deletion template. There is an article at ar:سون سمير but it isn't the same as this one. —Largo Plazo (talk) 03:44, 9 November 2009 (UTC)

This article is in English, but several portions appear to be direct translations from it:Tusculum on the Italian Wikipedia. Some of this article is in good shape, but there are a lot of grammatical and spelling issues strewn throughout. [edit] Polnische Wehrmacht in second War

The initial language of this article was Polish. I've done a very little copy editing, but don't want to do any more in case I mangle the intended meaning, which I think can only be assessed by a Polish reader comparing it to the pl.wikipedia original. Gonzonoir (talk) 13:33, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Alejandro Bello Silva

The original language of this article was Spanish. Some of its sources have become dead links, and even Google cached versions could not be accessed. I could find no additional sources online. As it stands, the article disagrees in some details with its surviving sources. If anybody has access to back issues (from December 2007) of the published sources, they might verify/correct the facts; otherwise, it may need tagging for verifiability. Note also that the original version of the page, which was unsourced, departed from this account in several respects. Unconventional (talk) 20:56, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Alexander Avtsin

The initial language of this article was French. I've done the translation, added basic infoboxes for ice hockey players etc. It could still use some cleanup by someone who knows more about ice hockey than I do, to make sure that I have got the correct terminology. In particular "assistances", and "PJ" (games? shoots? it presumably is something "jeu(x)" = game(s)) but I cannot find it in a dictionary). SimonTrew (talk) 07:16, 13 September 2009 (UTC)

This has had a little (not much) work since listed here. If it has survived User:Blanchardb's delprod, is it about time it is taken off of PNT here? (However if BlanchardB has any knowledge of ice hockey, I should be glad if he corrected any terms I have literally translated as I don't know the right words, before doing so. BB it will only take you a few secs, the article is very short.) SimonTrew (talk) 23:43, 27 September 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Mercedes de Jesús Egido

[edit] Kdam Eurovision

I have started the tiresome, strentuous journey in translating this entire article. All the information i have used is based on the hebrew version of the article at [[1]. I have had a bit of struggles with some of the various phrases throughout the artile but all in all i am about half-way through. I would really appreciate it if someone who understands hebrew could come and help me out. Thanks. --Coin945 (talk) 05:50, 2 October 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Lanzarote

This article needs to improve translation into english, and also we must extend as spanish article, we can investigate about history of the island if we dive in spanish history. Perhaps, portuguese article has too much interesting information and we could use as reference. Municipalities are not well discribed with its corrects mayors. Political party, PIL, can be translated as independent party of Lanzarote, as a literal translate. We should take canary islanders article, and copy and paste some valious information for writting more paragraphs. Thanks for reading.
