- This page should not be confused with requests for checkuser or documentation about the renaming of articles.
This page hosts requests for username changes, which are carried out if deemed appropriate by bureaucrats. It is usually only possible to rename an account to a name which is not yet taken. Renaming is carried out in accordance with the username policy. Please read the following notes and instructions carefully before making your request. Bureaucrats will make the name changes, but other users (including Bots) help by "clerking" the mechanics of this process. If you wish to help as a clerk, please read the linked page carefully. [edit] General notes - This page is for requests on the English Wikipedia only. To change your username on another Wikimedia project, please ask a bureaucrat on that project or make a request on Meta.
- It is not possible for bureaucrats to merge two accounts, or to reattribute edits from IP addresses. Only registered accounts can be renamed.
- As an alternative, please consider changing your signature. This will change your "public appearance" on talk pages and other places where you sign your username with ~~~~.
- If you have not made very many edits, it might be more efficient to simply create a new username and discard the old one; disused accounts are harmless and may be safely ignored. This will also save you the trouble of submitting a request and waiting for it to be fulfilled. You can copy your old watchlist to your new account. In such a case, your edits from the old account will not be reattributed to the new account.
- If you want your edits from your old account to be reattributed to your new account, do NOT create the new account first. Rather, request a name change here.
- Account names requested here are regarded as being "reserved" until the request is accepted or rejected. If someone else registers the account while the request is here, it will be renamed if necessary to allow for the requested move.
- Please do not request a name change because you plan to retire from editing Wikipedia. We have {{retired}} for that.
[edit] Effects of a username change - When the request has been completed, your account will have been renamed. Your account preferences, watchlist contents, password, etc. will all be preserved, and your user and user talk pages will have been moved to the new name.
- The process responsible for reallocating your old contributions may take some time. This is perfectly normal. Updates should take at most a day to complete, although it may take longer if you have a lot of edits and/or the "job queue" mechanism is very busy.
- The change will appear in the user rename log and the request will be moved to the archives in the interest of transparency. It is not possible to rename accounts without an entry being created in the log.
- This change will not affect signatures you have already left on talk pages, or other places where you signed your username with ~~~~. Those pages will continue to display your signature (including the link to your old username) unless edited manually.
- Be aware: Once you have been renamed, your old account will no longer exist and may potentially be recreated by a third party. This is true even if your old account pages have been redirected towards your new account. To guard against impersonation, you may wish to recreate the old account yourself.
- Note that username changes on the English Wikipedia do not affect your other accounts in your SUL. To reunify, each username you own must be renamed to the new name on their respective wikis, and then remerged with Special:MergeAccount.
[edit] Choosing an appropriate new name - First, take a look at the username policy to make sure the username you are requesting is appropriate.
- Using your real name as a username may put you at risk for harassment. Your request to use your real name will be delayed unless you state explicitly that you are aware of the implications of using your real name.
- Please note that for technical reasons, your username cannot begin with a lowercase letter, nor can it contain any underscores. However, you can change your signature to say whatever you like, within reason of course. You can also place a {{lowercase}} on your userpage, talk page, and subpages to make them display an initial lowercase letter.
[edit] Instructions Once you have decided on the name you would like: - Check to make sure this username is not already in use. Do this by searching for the name in this list. If the name appears in the list, even if the link is red, it is taken.
- Do not create an account under the new name or move your userpages. We'll do that for you.
- Log in with your present username in order to place your request. Renames will not be approved if the requester is not logged in.
- Click here to place a request.
- Replace the text
"CURRENT" with your present username. - Replace
"NEW" with the username to which you wish to be renamed. - Replace
"Reason for requested renaming." with the reason why you are requesting a change. - *Do not add anything in the "subject/headline" box.
- If that doesn't work, simply copy the following text to your computer's clipboard:
-
-
{{subst:Renameuser|CURRENT|NEW|3=Reason for requested renaming.}} ~~~~ - Go to the "Requests" section of this page, click the "edit" link, and paste the text at the very bottom. Modify it as indicated above.
- Make sure that you have spelled both names correctly. Save the page.
- Check back periodically to answer any questions that may arise regarding your request. Please be patient. It may take a few days for your request to be completed.
Do not be surprised if you suddenly cannot log in to your old account; this merely indicates that you should log in under your new user name as the request has been fulfilled. Archives: See: Wikipedia:Changing username/Archives
[edit] Current requests [edit] Rashack → Rashack.sv 80.217.195.198 (talk) 17:18, 1 November 2009 (UTC) Bureaucrat note: Rashack does not seem to have an SUL open for the name. (Does the bot listen to non-crat {{notdone}}'s?) –Juliancolton | Talk 23:36, 5 November 2009 (UTC) - It doesn't differentiate, but I think it's usually best form to wait for a bureaucrat to use the template. Waiting a bit longer is no trouble and people might question a result if a non-bureaucrat is dispensing it. In this case, it's clear that it's a notdone, but form is form. —Anonymous DissidentTalk 23:53, 5 November 2009 (UTC)

WJBscribe (talk) 21:46, 8 November 2009 (UTC) [edit] LennLin → LLTimes - Current name: Lennlin (talk · contribs · logs · block log)
- Requested name: LLTimes (SUL reports: old & new) (rename user)
- Reason: I'm very novice at this :( I made this account long time ago for purpose of uploading images onto Wiki commons while registering another account in wiki main page with the same name to edit articles. However because Lennlin is a private name i change it to LLTimes on my wiki editing account and not on this Wiki common Account. Few days ago i accidentally click on Global Account on this account which cause this account to be able to make edits on the wiki articles. I don't want two accounts since i discover I can do the global account with LLTimes. Please rename my common account to LLTimes too while deleting Lennlin? Lennlin (talk) 20:35, 8 November 2009 (UTC)
N Not done - we can't merge accounts, if you want LLTimes to be your global account you need to sign in with that name and go to Special:MergeAccount. If you want your account in Commons renamed from Lennlin to LLTimes, you will need to ask on Commons at Commons:Changing username. Don't worry about having two accounts, just stop using Lennlin if you don't want it. - Requested name: Faith. (SUL reports: old & new) (rename user)
- Reason: Signed up with incorrect name. Sici (talk) 06:11, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
Clerk note: Do you mean to include the dot (.) in the name? If you do not, you would have to usurp the account Faith (it has no contributions). Don't worry, usurping is a reasonably painless process. — This, that, and the other [talk] 06:50, 9 November 2009 (UTC) [edit] Lesliesisson → Lesnosis [edit] Endeavor global → Jd123 - Current name: Endeavor global (talk · contribs · logs · block log)
- Requested name: Jd123 (SUL reports: old & new) (rename user)
- Reason: I have already gained permission to change this username, to reflect an individual user instead of a group. Please let me know if anything else needs to be done. Endeavor global (talk) 15:22, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
Clerk note: The requested username is already registered; see Special:Listusers. However, as this requested account has made no edits, it meets the criteria for being usurped; if you wish to usurp it, please read and follow the process at Wikipedia:Changing username/Usurpations. If you do not wish to usurp the username, please choose another name to be renamed to. Pmlineditor ∞ 15:27, 9 November 2009 (UTC) -
Clerk note: On the contrary, the requested account has made 134 edits, and therefore usurpation is likely inappropriate. Please choose an alternative name. - As a suggestion, I note that JD123, with an upper case 'D', is currently unregistered. AJCham 18:35, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
