There was a river that originated from Agia Varvara and was directed through a few watermills before getting by Nea Amissos. It was a magnificent little river that gave Nea Amissos a picturasque view. When I was a little boy we used to swim in the river during the long hot summers. St Georgios church was adjacent to the river and made our cross throwing in the river very special.

The inhabitants of this village came from Sampsun and Agtagah Maden Turkey during the 1912-1922 exchange. The majority of the inhabitants spoke Pontiaca. During the late 50s young people begun to leave Nea Amissos due to lack of employment. The only work you could find besides farming was working in the brick making small companies which most young people hated.

Many went to Germany and some to the United States. I went to the United States as an exchange student at Cornell University, now I am a retired Federal Government Auditor and part time high school teacher. Greetings to all my beloved friends and relatives in Nea Amissos and Drama!!!!
