White-Washing Race: The Myth of a Color-blind Society is a compilation of evidence from sociologists, political scientists, economists, criminologists, and legal scholars that presents a logical view on the wrongful opinion that we exist in a color-blind society. According to the book, it is a common misunderstanding that racial discrimination is of the past, and that the many inequalities which prevail in our country in such matters as wages, income, and access to housing and health care, are due to either cultural or individual failures. The book provides an alternate explanation: that racism, particularly organized racial advantages is as huge of an issue today as earlier. Such inequalities are apparent in the labor market, the welfare state, the criminal justice system, and schools and universities. The book takes account of the advancement of black Americans since the 1960’s, and current anti-discrimination policies, but advocates new policies for increased racial equality in a post-affirmative action world.
