West High was built in 1965. The school mascot is the Vikings.

• Twice a California Distinguished School, 1986 and 1996.

West High teacher Danny Arretche was recognized as Teacher of the Year during the 2006-2007 school year. He currently teaches AP Biology and AP Environmental Science.
