Wally Albright (September 3, 1925 – August 7, 1999) was an American former child actor.

[edit] Career

Albright was born Walton Algernon Albright, Jr. in Burbank, California. He appeared in a number of films during his career, and is notable for appearing as a main character in the Our Gang short subjects series in 1934. He only starred on Our Gang for about six months appearing in only five episodes plus one additional episode in 1932. But he had lead roles in the five episodes from 1934. He appeared in the Our Gang episode Choo-Choo! in 1932.

After that he appeared in small parts of various films made by Hal Roach Studios. At the end of 1933, when Gus Meins took over directing, Our Gang needed a few new characters. Several older Our Gangers left the series in the summer of 1933 including Dorothy DeBorba and Wheezer (a holdover from the silent era). Wally would be one of several characters including Scotty Beckett and Billie Thomas (soon Buckwheat) to debut in 1934 in the Our Gang episode Hi Neighbor. Wally quickly became one of the bigger Our Gang stars. But much to the dismay of Hal Roach and director Gus Meins, Wally voluntarily left the gang and returned to a normal childhood life. He graduated high school and college as he entered adult life.

[edit] Later years

In adult life, Albright became a successful businessman, after a period as a champion water sportsman. He died in Sacramento, California on August 7, 1999, aged 73.
