WLYX (96.7 FM) is a radio station broadcasting a Mainstream Urban format. Licensed to Valdosta, Georgia, USA, the station is currently owned by the Rivers Radio Group.[1]. [edit] HistoryThe station went on the air as WVCM on 1991-05-15. on 1992-02-01, the station changed its call sign to WYZK, on 2005-05-26 to WGOV-FM, on 2006-07-05 to the current WLYX,[2] The call letters WLYX were previously assigned to Southwestern at Memphis (now Rhodes College), where the FM station operated at 89.3MHz and was known as "The Alternative." In that noncommercial incarnation, the free format station was operated by a volunteer staff with broadly eclectic taste, and was widely influential in bringing punk and new wave to the Memphis TN market in the early 1980s.
