Vladimir Filippovich Tributs (Russian: Владимир Филиппович Трибуц, July 28, 1900, Saint Petersburg - 1977) was a Soviet naval commander and admiral from 1943. Tributz joined the Navy in 1918 and served aboard the Battleship Marat and the destroyer Yakov Sverdlov. Graduated in two naval academies. From 1926 to 1929 and from 1932 to 1936 he served on ships of the Baltic Fleet. From February 1938 to April 1939 Tribits served as the Chief of Staff of the Baltic Fleet and from April 1939 to 1947 he commanded it. A leading navy commander during the Siege of Leningrad, Tributs led the Soviet evacuation of Tallinn, organized military operations in defense of the ports of Kronstadt and Oranienbaum during 1941-1943, and arranged counterattacks by the naval aviation of the Baltic Fleet defending besieged Leningrad from aerial bombing attacks. His active involvement in the defense of the besieged Leningrad helped save the city from still more destruction, but failed to save the suburban palaces of the tsars from destruction by the Nazis, such as the Summer Palace of Peter the Great in Petrodvorets. Tributs retired in February 1961, having earned two 1st class Orders of Ushakov, one Order of Nakhimov and several other medals. Turning to military history after his retirement, he produced a number of military histories of the Baltic Fleet and its operations during the Second World War. The Udaloy class destroyer Admiral Tributs is named after him. [edit] Works
