WCW vs. The World (known in Japan as Virtual Pro-Wrestling ) is a wrestling game that was released in 1997 for the PlayStation video game console. It was the first game developed by AKI Corporation to be released outside of Japan. It is also the first game in the Virtual Pro-Wrestling series in Japan.

[edit] Featured wrestlers

Since the game is the North American version of Japanese wrestling title Virtual Pro-Wrestling, each of the "fictional" wrestlers in the game are actually based on real-life wrestlers. Only their names were changed.

Super Jr.

[edit] Trivia

  • Pressing START instead of the X button (and vice versa) can give wrestlers alternate attires. In some cases, certain wrestlers revert to past gimmicks (for example, pressing START can turn the nWo "Hollywood" Hogan into the red-and-yellow "Hulk" Hogan, or pressing START can turn the black-and-white late '90s Sting into the multi-colored, blonde-haired classic Sting).
  • When Jeff Jarrett wins a Tournament or League Match, his name is displayed as "The All American."
  • Saladin's alternate attire has "DAW" on the front, which is the abbreviation for Dead or Alive in Virtual Pro-Wrestling. In WCW vs. the World, it is abbreviated "DoA."
  • Even though Sting is a playable character in the game, he had been in the midst of a year-plus long sabbatical from the wrestling ring at the time this game was released. He had not wrestled from Fall Brawl in September 1996 until Starrcade in December 1997.
  • One of the game's music tracks, which exclusively plays when Samoa/Giant Baba is chosen as a player or opponent, is a version of the All Japan Pro Wrestling opening theme.
