Vinayaka Missions University (VMU), formerly known as Vinayaka Mission's Research Foundation, Deemed University, is a higher education institution based in Salem, Tamil Nadu, India and it is the 48th University in country. The deemed university status was conferred by the Ministry of Human Resources Development (India) with the recommendations of UGC (Established Under Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956) to Vinayaka Mission's Research Foundation as an acknowledgment of excellence and satisfaction for the highest levels of academic standards and its infrastructure facilities provided to achieve excellence in education.It was renamed as VMU in 2006 as per a new decree issued by the University Grants Commission enabling deemed universities to change their name to 'university'.The BE programmes are accredited by national agencies such as UGC,NBA and Institution of Engineers (India). The University has 27 colleges nationally and 3 International. It additionally has 3 hospitals in India. The foundation also has branched out internationally with universities in Thailand, Canada, and a medical school in Belize. And recently Vinayaka Missions has established its presence in the United States with a medical campus in the state of Maryland near the city of Hagerstown.
