Situated on former Duda Ranch and scrub forest land, Viera is a master planned community in Brevard County, Florida, located in the Space Coast region. It is unincorporated.[1] Viera is home to many of the county government's buildings. It also contains the Space Coast Stadium, home field for the Brevard County Manatees. It is the spring training home of the Washington Nationals. The population of Viera (as of 2000) is approximately 19,083.[2] Viera is part of the Palm Bay–Melbourne–Titusville Metropolitan Statistical Area.

[edit] NeighborhoodsNeighborhoods include Gatwick Manor, Daintree,Osprey, Sunstone Estates, Terramore, Eason Landing, Cortona, and Levanto, all part of the new Viera West Expansion, The Villages of North Solerno and The Villages Of South Solerno. The older part of viera includes Wickham Lakes[3], Viera East Golf Club, Crane Creek, Grand Isle Retirement Community, Herons' Landing, Indian River Colony Club, Six Mile Creek, Hammock Trace, and The Villages of Viera East[4] which consists of the Bennington, Somerville, Templeton, Auburn Lakes and Wingate Estates subdivisions, surrounding the Ralph M. Williams, Jr. Elementary School. [edit] HistoryDevelopment started in earnest about 1993. Until then, the area was mostly open land or farmland with road access via a single lane highway.[5] An overpass crossing I-95 in central Viera opened in November 2007, joining Viera East and Viera West via an extension of Viera Boulevard. This reduced travel time to government offices.[6] [edit] EconomyThe Avenue Viera, a shopping center[7] opened in 2004. The grand opening was delayed somewhat due to Hurricanes Frances and Jean [8] The Avenue contains shops and restaurants, Rave Motion Pictures Theaters [9], and several Big Box retailers including Bed, Bath and Beyond, Office Depot and The Sports Authority, New York and Company, Charlotte Russe, and Pacsun. Restaurants include Longhorn Steakhouse, Panera Bread, Chili's and The Melting Pot. [edit] AthleticsThere are two 18-hole golf courses.[10] There is a 125-acre (0.51 km2) Regional Park which has 5 lit baseball fields, 2 lit softball fields, 8 soccer fields, an 18,000 square feet (1,700 m2) community center/gymnasium, 2 lit outdoor basketball courts, 3 playgrounds, and 4 lit tennis courts. Space Coast Stadium is home to the Brevard Co. Manatees Single A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers and the spring training site of the Washington Nationals.
