The Victoria Seals are a professional baseball team based in Victoria, British Columbia. The Seals are a member of the North Division of the independent Golden Baseball League, which is not affiliated with either Major League Baseball or Minor League Baseball. They joined the GBL on October 1, 2008. The Seals play their home games at Royal Athletic Park, a multipurpose stadium in Victoria which is also home of the PCSL's Victoria United. The Seals' home attendance numbers in their first season were excellent, with an average of 2,388 per game, the second best in the GBL and at 53% capacity, which was the highest overall capacity total in the league. These numbers are higher than the GBL's other Canadian teams, the Calgary Vipers and the Edmonton Capitals, in both percentage capacity and total attendance. Also, the Seals missed a sellout by 19 people on their final game of the 2009 season, with 4228 fans in attendance.

[edit] Ownership

The Seals are owned by Russ Parker and his son Darren. [1] Prior to owning the Seals, Russ was owner of the Class AAA Pacific Coast League's Calgary Cannons (now the Albuquerque Isotopes). Coincidentally, the GBL has a team in the Cannons' old home field of Foothills Stadium; the defending North Division champion Calgary Vipers.

[edit] On-field staff

On November 25, 2008, the Seals named former Major League infielder Darrell Evans as their first manager. Evans was the initial manager of the Long Beach Armada from 2005 to 2007 and last served as batting coach for the Orange County Flyers, who won the title in 2008. [2]
