Vice President of Vietnam (Vietnamese: Phó Chủ tịch nước Việt Nam) is the second highest political position in Vietnam. According to the Constitution of Vietnam, Vice President is appointed by the National Assembly of Vietnam among its members. Vice President will assist the President in some duties assigned by the President [1]. The Constitution of Vietnam Democratic Republic in 1946 included the first regulations for the Vice President. First Vice President to succeed to the presidency was Ton Duc Thang following the death of Ho Chi Minh in 1969. Also Nguyễn Hữu Thọ served as acting President briefly. In 1980, the Constitution of Vietnam established Council of State and the Chairman of the State to replace the President, but with more limitations in terms of powers. Position of Deputy Chairman of the State also have similar changes. The new Constitution of 1992 restored the positions of President and Vice President as they were before 1980. Since 1992, all Vice Presidents of Vietnam have been women. [edit] List of Vice Presidents
