Venezia Santa Lucia is the only railway station on the island of Venice. Mestre station is on the other side of the Ponte della Libertà (Freedom Bridge) on the mainland.

The station is a modern structure compared to the historical buildings surrounding it, and was built on the site of the Santa Lucia church from which its name is derived.

Just outside the station visitors catch the Vaporetto (public water bus) or can take a private taxi boat to venture onwards into Venice.
