[edit] Early life

White was born in Somerset, England to a Black English father and a Spanish Filipino mother and began her early years in Taunton. Attracted to performing from a young age she attended the Sylvia Young Theatre School on Saturdays before being offered a full time place and moving to London with her family. She appeared in several theatre productions, including the West End production of The Lion King as Young Nala and also played one of the King's daughters in The King And I from 2000-2002. She has a brother, Ryan, and a younger sister named Celine. Vanessa White has claimed that she convinced her mother to name her sister after Celine Dion, whom she idolised during her childhood and early teens.

[edit] The Saturdays

Having already been signed as a solo artist White auditioned for & was accepted as a member of a newly-formed girlband in 2007. She gelled quickly with the four other members who now refer to her as "our Christina Aguilera" due to her extensive vocal range.[2] She has also received comparison to American singers Alicia Keys, Beyoncé and Mariah Carey.[1][3]

[edit] Chasing Lights (2008)

White is the only member of the group to have solo parts in every song on their debut album Chasing Lights (2008) and the verses of the title track are sung entirely by her, although when performed live the vocals of the song "Chasing Lights" are shared among all five members. The B-side to their single "Work", "Unofficial", is a revamped version of a song White wrote during her teenage years and was originally titled "Artificial Love".

[edit] The Work Tour

During June and July 2009, White toured the UK with The Saturdays and performed in theatres across the country. Before she was about to go on stage for the second show of the tour in Dundee, White tripped over a cable backstage and tore a ligament in her ankle and missed a large proportion of the show that night. Once paramedics had strapped up her foot she was permitted to join the band on stage in a wheelchair. White spent the next few shows appearing on stage sat on a bar stool and gradually began to stand for more and more songs as the tour progressed, before finally being able to perform all choreography again.

[edit] Wordshaker (2009)

Along with the other members of the group, White has co-written a track on their second album titled "Deeper". As with the title track on their debut "Chasing Lights" she features prominently in the verses and ad-libs. White's vocals feature heavily on 11 of the 12 tracks of their sophomore album excluding "One Shot" on which Rochelle Wiseman takes the lead and White on ad-libs.

[edit] Other work

Vanessa provided additional vocals on Master Shortie's debut album A.D.H.D. on the track 'Swagger Chick'. The album was released on the 27 July 2009.

She will be starring on ITV's new reality hit show Popstar to Opera Star

[edit] Personal Life

Vanessa is currently in a long term relationship with singer and former X Factor contestant Adam Chandler. She has a dog named George who is a Bichonpoo (half Toy Poodle, half Bichon Frise).
