Munawar Ali Khan (Devanagari: मुनावर अली ख़ान) (1930 - 1989) was a Hindustani classical singer of the Patiala Gharana.
[edit] Early lifeKhan was born to the maestro, Bade Ghulam Ali Khan and Allah Jiwai.[1] [edit] CareerMusical guidance for the young master came at the feet of his father. He accompanied his father to all his concerts until he died in 1968. Subsequently, Munawar Ali Khan started giving solo concerts. In his full-throated voice, he takes on the lower octave, the mandra stayi, of one of the most majestic ragas of Hindustani classical music, Darbari. For some reason Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan did not encourage Munawar to develop as a solo performer while he was alive and Munawar Ali Khan could never establish himself as an eminent solo singer even though he was very talented. He came to the music scene quite late hence there are not many recordings. The Ustad was accompanied by a brilliant saarangiya (name unknown), who follows his singing closely. So closely that one would expect it would disturb the focus of the musician. Instead, the duo seem to seek inspiration from each other and share a good chemistry. [edit] DeathUstad Munawar Ali Khan died in 1989, at the relatively young age of 59. [edit] Personal lifeHe was married and has a son, Raza Ali Khan, also a classical singer. [edit] Discography
