[edit] Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/decltype

Your closing [1] didn't record the final tally and close like in for example [2]. PrimeHunter (talk) 14:06, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

I fixed it; for your reference it's because RfAs are now counted by a bot on a separate page - you need to subst the RfATally template as you close the RfA (or just type it in manually), otherwise it goes to 0/0/0. Thanks ~ mazca talk 14:39, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Your speedy deletion of Thomas Burridge

I believe your speedy deletion of this article was in error for two reasons. Firstly and most importantly the criteria for A7 clearly state "The criterion does not apply to any article that makes any credible claim of significance or importance even if the claim is not supported by a reliable source". By your own admission, in the deletion log, there is a claim to significance - "Only claim to notability is as UK's youngest ever Parliamentary candidate". Given his age this is at least a credible claim (especially given the minimium age for an MP was only lowered to 21 a couple of years ago although I wouldn't expect you to know that). The fact that there were "no independent refs" is completely irrelevant in the application of the A7 criteria (as is clearly states in the criteria). Likewise "almost certainly incorrect" does not appear to be a valid criteria. In short I think this article in no way met the A7 criteria and that is while I removed the speedy from it. Indeed this is the second reason why I believe you should not have speedied it as according to the WP:DP#Speedy deletion "If there is a dispute over whether a page meets the criteria, the issue is typically taken to deletion discussions, mentioned below." Although I accept this is not binding I see no compelling reason in this case for you to ignote it.

As it happens I suspect this article wouldn't have survived a prod or afd so am not asking for it to be restored as it doesn't seem worth the effort as the page can always be recreated if neccessary. I do think however the article deserved one of the longer deletion processes so I would appreciate an explanation of your actions. Dpmuk (talk) 17:04, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for admitting you probably made a mistake. I'm a bit of a stickler for the rules on speedies as I once saved a page that had been speedied twice for being nonsense - as it happened I think it had just been written by someone with a poor grasp of English and there were even a few academic articles on the subject. In this case I can also find no reliable sources to support the assertion and given the rather promotional tone of the article it's probably easiest if it's just started again if it is confirmed. Dpmuk (talk) 19:15, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Euro voting figures

Thanks for the reference for the Norwich figures: I've since added figures to the Leeds article. I knew the voting figures per local authority were made public on the night of the count and had wondered where they were available thereafter! PamD (talk) 17:10, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

[edit] RFB.

Hey,

Just in regards to User:Juliancolton's RFB which was closed with no consensus regardless of a (225/67/9) discussion. That is 158 more editors supporting then opposing and looks like clear consensus to me. Can I be so bold to ask your reasoning for this closure and decision? Is there a required percentage that is needed in order for promotion? Thanks!--Gordonrox24 | Talk 00:46, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

Oh I see. I thank you greatly for your quick response!--Gordonrox24 | Talk 13:40, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Would you count this vote?

[3] This is a vote by Keepscases at Tedder's RfA which a lot of people disagree with (Wikipedia talk:Requests for adminship/Tedder). If you were the closing 'crat would you discount this vote? Aditya (talk) 14:15, 16 July 2009 (UTC)

I certainly hope not--especially since people seem to be disagreeing with things other than the actual rationale for my vote. Keepscases (talk) 18:27, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
Thank you very much for your reply. I'm not really looking for a range of views, so I won't post at the Bureaucrats Noticeboard. Your views on this are very reassuring though, and it certainly answered my questions. Again, thank you. Aditya (talk) 12:27, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Saville vs Savile

Hi, I noticed that you've reverted an anon who changed the spelling of Saville Street in the Wicker Station article. I think that I originally introduced the spelling with a double L. However, on checking OS maps it does appear that the spelling I chose was incorrect. Can you take another look at this. Thanks, —Jeremy (talk) 17:11, 19 July 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/100 Players Who Shook the Kop

FYI, the fourth Cambridge meetup will occur on the afternoon of Saturday 1 August. Wikimedia UK people are getting a message about this, in the interests of general communicativeness. Charles Matthews (talk) 13:54, 26 July 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Location Maps

Hi, I noticed that you created {{Location map United Kingdom Norfolk}}. I need a map for the Norfolk Broads creating for use on List of drainage windmills in Norfolk. I've added all the drainage mills to the Norfolk map and the result is this. I can lose #57 as it was really a pumping mill rather than a drainage mill. Mjroots (talk) 07:16, 5 August 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Question about quicker categorising

I'd like to break down Category:Members of the Congress of Deputies (Spain) into sub categories for each parliament. Is there a quick way to do this instead of just manually adding the new category to the individual pages? Valenciano (talk) 08:58, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for reply, no I couldn't find anything so in the end I just did it all manually. On the subject though, i set up Category:Member of the Corts Valencianes which should obviously be "Members." Could you move it as I don't have the option to move it myself? Valenciano (talk) 11:22, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Articles for deletion nomination of Democratic Labour Party (UK)

Ambox warning pn.svg

I have nominated Democratic Labour Party (UK), an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Democratic Labour Party (UK). Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

[edit] Kww 3 - Bureaucrat discussion

I've opened a bureaucrat chat in relation to this RfA as I don't think the outcome is particularly clear cut. If you have a moment, I'd appreciate your input. WJBscribe (talk) 20:04, 17 October 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Diane Leek - no evidence of notoriety

Diane Leek is a former Lord Mayor of Sheffield, people have been gradually creating pages for *all* Lord Mayors of Sheffield. Also, Diane notorisously had to stand for election twice after been disqualified, and hextupled her majority, then lost, then was re-elected with the city's biggest majority. Her by-election is the only one that has the prefix "The" and everybody knows what is meant. Also, give me a chance, I'm still digging the original sources out of the archives! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.166.131.85 (talk) 19:37, 20 October 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Some discussion please?

Howsabout contacting me before engaging in blanket reversions? I have good reasons for not inflaming the actual debate that is going on over voting with a blanket statement that the voting matter is resolved. I am hedging my bets because this matter clearly isn't over yet. And steamrolling someone without any attempt at discussion isn't really ideal. Manning (talk) 04:25, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

Left an explanation and an apology at my page. Am definitely sorry for any bad feelings caused. Manning (talk) 04:38, 3 November 2009 (UTC)
FYI - I tweaked the Signpost article to clarify about SecurePoll and the AUSC elections. Thanks for your input. Manning (talk) 06:47, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Hi!

Hi warofdreams!

The article 2003 Afro-Asian Games has been rated C-class under WikiProject Africa for quite some time. I really think that it is now ready to be rated B-class. If you think so as well, please do so.

Any suggestions for improvement are most welcome.

[edit] Entrism and Fightback (Canada)

Can you look at Talk:Fightback (Canada)? There is a dispute over whether the Canadian IMT (Grant/Woods) affiliate, Fightback, should be described as practicing entrism in the New Democratic Party of Canada. One editor, the main author of the article, insists that there must be a source that specifically says Fightback is entrist however the group is quite small and hasn't generated enough press or academic interest for such a source to come into existence. However, the fact that they are an IMT affiliate and are members of a social democratic party and the fact that the IMT is credibly sourced as being entrist should make this a no-brainer. I mean entrism is the IMT's whole modus operandi. 67.70.121.29 (talk) 14:00, 27 November 2009 (UTC)

I've replied to your comments at Talk:Fightback (Canada). 142.204.247.135 (talk) 18:48, 30 November 2009 (UTC)

[edit] 2010 WikiCup Signups Reconfirmation!

To ensure that everyone who signed up is still committed to participating in the 2010 WikiCup, it is required that you remove your name from this list! By removing your name, you are not removing yourself from the WikiCup. This is simply a way for the judges to take note of who has not yet reconfirmed their participation. If you have not removed your name from that list by December 30th, 2009 (by 23:59 (UTC)) then your name will be removed from the WikiCup.

It's worth noting the rules have changed, likely after you signed up. The changes made thus far are:

  • Mainspace and/or portal edits will not be awarded points at all.
  • Did you know? articles (which were worth 5 points last year) will now be worth 10 points.
  • Good articles (which were worth 30 points last year) will now be worth 40 points.
  • Valued pictures will be now awarded points, however the amount (5 or 10 points) is still being discussed.
  • Featured lists (which were worth 30 points last year) will now be worth 40 points.
  • Featured portals (which were worth 25 points last year) will now be worth 35 points.
  • Featured articles (which were worth 50 points last year) will now be worth 100 points.
  • Featured topics (which were worth 10 points per article last year) will now be worth 15 points per any article in the topic that you were a major contributor to.
  • Good topics (which were worth 5 points per article last year) will now be worth 10 points per any article in the topic that you were a major contributor to.
  • In the news will still be awarded points, however the amount (5 or 10 points) is still being discussed.

If you have any final concerns about the WikiCup's rules and regulations, please ask them now, before the Cup begins to avoid last minute problems. You may come to the WikiCup's talk page, or any of the judge's user talk pages. We're looking forwards to a great 2010 WikiCup! On behalf of the WikiCup judges, iMatthew talk at 03:48, 5 December 2009 (UTC)
