[edit] Italian comune templates

Can you remove the left side coat of arms from Template:Province of Salerno. You'll have to remove it from the locked template which is used for all. Doesn't need COA on left anyway... Himalayan 21:41, 22 November 2009 (UTC)

I will have a look, these particular templates are fairly convoluted. It might be easier to just remove the COA from all of them. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 21:57, 22 November 2009 (UTC)
Okay, I added some ifexist logic in the parent template, so it should avoid showing redlinked images in the navbox. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 22:05, 22 November 2009 (UTC)

Nice one. You taking a break from geo articles at the mo? You a big fan of the Survivor series? Must admit when it came to the UK I thought it was really good and was disappointed when they axed it after only two series. The states have had like at least 10 series haven't they like Survivor Palau! Himalayan 14:26, 30 November 2009 (UTC)

I have been on travel for about 20 days over the past month, so I haven't had much of a chance to work on the "to do" list. However, I am now back home, so I should be able to start working again. Some of the conversions will go better if I get your input first, before doing the mass substitution. Yes, I am a "closeted fan" of reality television. I have somewhere around 1500 reality television related articles on my watchlist at the moment. Survivor is now up to season 19 or 20, (see Survivor 20). This particular season, Survivor: Samoa, is turning out to be one of the better ones. They did a good job with casting. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 14:51, 30 November 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Skeemface Mafia

Just wondering why you deleted the Skeemface Mafia page. People have been asking what this band is all about I figured this might let them know. Anyways I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks in advance. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Brains75 (talkcontribs) 01:25, 25 November 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for contacting me. The page was deleted per WP:CSD A7, which means that the content did not establish notability of the band. This is not to say that the band is necessarily not notable, but notability was not established in the article. I can move the article to your userspace, if you would like to work on it some more, and perhaps build it up with some reliable secondary sources. However, you would have to show some indication that this is a band signed to a major record label, and/or have some references in newspapers or some other secondary source. Let me know if I can answer any more questions. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 04:50, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Flamestorm

Why did you delete my Flamestorm article??? Apparently I'm not significant. I'm DEPUTY for goodness sake!! If that is not significant I don't know what is!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by FlamestormofSunClan (talkcontribs) 18:10, 30 November 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for contacting me. You should probably read WP:COI. If the Warriors roleplay website is not notable enough to have an article, then a character on that website is not either. If you feel as though the website is notable enough to have an article, gather together a list of reliable secondary sources from places like Google News, then try either starting the article in your own userspace or at WP:AFC. Let me know if I can be of any help. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 18:16, 30 November 2009 (UTC)

OK, thankyou. I will make a article on www.warriorclansoftheweather.webs.com —Preceding unsigned comment added by FlamestormofSunClan (talkcontribs) 18:34, 30 November 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Spain

Grrr its really stressing me out even looking at the spanish municipal articles. I'd begin on them manually but I feel it is best done with automation/semi-automation. Even the ones which have infobox settlement are just in a total mess with parameters boundaries on the wrong side etc and just all jumbled up. Its gonna require a serious effort to sort them out, I really hope that some time you'll be up to the task... They really do practically all need a makeover... Himalayan 21:07, 30 November 2009 (UTC)

I'd recommend that we create the Spanish infobox first and just copy all of the infoboxes from spanish wiki like here and just overide the existing ones with a copied consistent template. Then at a later date they can be converted to infobox settlement but I'd say creating a wrapper template is of key to the task and to just copy everything from spanish wiki consistently... Ah of course you created Template:Infobox Spanish municipality, its just a case now of tranferring it as efficiently as possible.. The biggest problem is the maps this part of the spanish infoboxes,

| imagen = {{Mapa de localización |España |label=Pedro Abad |position=right |lat_deg=37 | lat_min=58 | lat_seg=0 |lon_deg=-4 | lon_min=-27 |lon_seg=0 |float=none |caption= |width=300 }}<br />[[Archivo:Pedro-Abad-mapa.png|200px]]

It doesn't automatically transfer showing the map and national locator as it should like Nerha, If you find a way for it to do so, so they can be directly copied withuot alterations I can begin transferring them manually... Himalayan 21:11, 30 November 2009 (UTC)

What I would do normally is take a category of articles, generate a list, pull the interwikis, extract the raw infoboxen from the es database and up-load them. Then translate using AWB. Rich Farmbrough, 21:48, 30 November 2009 (UTC).
My PerlWikipedia script finds the twin-article name by parsing the interwiki links, opens up that page, grabs the infobox, pastes it into the English language page, then runs a sequence of regexp commands. So, basically it does it all in one step. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 21:50, 30 November 2009 (UTC)

Cheers for converting those Thai infoboxes. I've replaced with svgs and am beautifying with image like Satun Province, looks much better quality. Shame about the referencing and general content of the articles though...

Looks good. Himalayan 12:02, 1 December 2009 (UTC)

Yeah I don't want to pile up the work too much but if I do come across one needing conversion on my travels I'll add it. Glad you've started on Spain, hope you can find a way to do it quicker and more efficiently. The articles are a mess. Dr. Blofeld White cat 12:10, 5 December 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Unlocking Katarzyna Dolinska

Of all the models on ANTM, katarzyna has had the most impressive post show career, and deserves a page more than any other contestant. because there was multiple attempts to create a page imediatly after cycle 10, the page was locke as a redirect by User:Jennavecia, Last April I got the her to unlock the page, and immediately it was AfD . When it survived the AfD, User: Mbinebri convinced her that the page was supposed to be locked forever , and that i used trickery to get her to unlock it. When I tried to explain that it was Manbiiri that was using tricker not me, I got no response. Obviously there are people who are so stuck in the past that they can't see that peoples notability changes, would you be willing to intervene and get the page unlocked? ... Misty Willows talk 04:43, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

Yes, I would be happy to help if possible. I would guess the first thing to do would be to get something started either at WP:AFC or in userspace. You could get Hunter to help build a fairly strong article. Once there is sufficient weight, it could be moved back into article space, and I could help by unlocking the article. I will have a look in the deleted revision history to see if there is anything that can be salvaged to get things started. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 05:03, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

[edit] When Love Hurts

Why did you delete my "When Love Hurts" article? That was the name of the performance that the article was about. The title had alot of relevance to the subject! —Preceding unsigned comment added by ABrezzy (talkcontribs) 10:35, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Template:Infobox Protected area

Can you get this to just use a simple pushpin map rather than x y coordinates? I started Bassi Wildlife Sanctuary but can't get it to work! Dr. Blofeld White cat 12:50, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

I believe I fixed it. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 16:06, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

Thanks, can you quickly add File:Legenda rezerwat scisly.svg at 12px instead of a red pin, green seems more suited to nature! If for some reason that doesn't work try File:Green dot.svg. The forest square though would seem better suited in terms of shape and theme than a dot. Now let me see Legenda rezerwat scisly.svg Bassi Wildlife Sanctuary yep 12px would look right for the map I think. Also we could try a forest green header like on the right and a thin green border around the box in the same color, I think it would look better for national parks! Dr. Blofeld White cat 17:59, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

See in the location part to the infobox programming it would be something like |mark = Legenda rezerwat scisly.svg |marksize = 12 |label = {{#if:|{{{map_dot_label}}}|

(so the name of the national park displays on the map alongside the square marker. That should be very easy to fix I'd imagine... Dr. Blofeld White cat 19:18, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

It appears this feature was already supported in the template, you just needed to pass the correct parameters. Let me know if that isn't what you were looking for. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 19:43, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

Mmm I don't know whether thats a good idea as it tends to create inconsistency. Its probably best it is controlled by the template as default. Could you try it by default at 8px. ? It will take too long to add it all manually! Also didn't you like the green header? Dr. Blofeld White cat 23:17, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

Due to the number of transclusions, it would probably be best to propose this change here and perhaps here. I did change the default to use the Green (rather than red) dot, but changing the color of the banner, or changing the pin style completely is probably best to run by some other editors first (if anyone cares). The only problem I could see with changing the banner to use a color is that there is another banner which may appear directly under it (see the examples on the template's page). Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 23:47, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Computing percentages

Hey, do you help make and edit the Biggest Loser weight percentage leaderboard in the discussion section of the Biggest Loser Season 8 article? If so, is this how you find % of weight lost- Example-Danny has lost 201 pounds, so 201 pounds is X percent of 430. IS/Of X/100% 201*100 Then, the result of that divided by 430. I tried that earlier today, and I checked my work, and I did it right. LOL. So, I could probably help you guys out. LOL. YouTubeaholic2009 (talk) 21:22, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

In almost all cases, the percentages in the table are computing with respect to the last weigh-in. So, if Danny originally weighed 430 pounds, but weighed 250 pounds at the last weigh-in, then we would use the 250 as the reference. However, at the finale, the weight at the start of the season will be used. Note that, all of these percentages are actually reported on the show, so we aren't technically computing anything (although it's fairly straightforward to do so). So, you are correct that if the reference weight is 430, you would take 100*201/430. There are some more complicated cases, like when the contestant gained weight, and the subtract the gained weight before determining the reference value. [edit] Speedy deletion candidate

Found another bogus page Anthony Bouzi. Another question, what is the proper way to rename an article.thxMarty Rockatansky (talk) 07:22, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

The best way to rename an article is to just "move it" to the new name. This keeps the page history intact (see WP:MOVE). If it won't let you move it, due to the existence of the target page, then an admin can help resolve the problem. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 14:57, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Templates for deletion

You recently closed this discussion about templates for deletion with "no consensus to delete". I'm surprised about that and just wanted to check if you read the discussion. Even though the number of people voting for keeping the template was higher, none of them gave any reason to do so. Does consensus decide whether they're deleted regardless of guidelines? I thought the moment an admin. or experienced user looked at the points I'd made they'd see that those templates don't need to exist so would promptly delete them. But they're back on all the articles they were previously removed from, thus lessening their quality. I can't find the guideline that says so, but there's one which attempts to stop the overabundance of templates linking pages together needlessly. That guideline directly relates to this discussion and I'd like to quote it when I reopen the case to have them finally removed. Do you know the one I mean? And do you have an opinion on those templates' existence? I'm really curious to know why they've been kept.--Jeff79 (talk) 12:13, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

You are correct that it is not a vote. I believe the implied reasoning for keeping a navigation template is that someone thinks it's useful for navigation. As you pointed out, in many cases this is often excessive navigation due to the large amount of duplication. I actually think that this issue goes far beyond these particular templates. I have seen a myriad of such cases nominated at WP:TFD, some were kept and some were deleted. If you look at the bottom of Derek Jeter, you will see multiple levels of collapsed boxes. Perhaps it would be a good idea to continue discussion at WP:RL, or to start a broader WP:RFC about the utility of these templates. As far as policy goes, there is something about WP:COLLAPSE, WP:OVERLINK, and Wikipedia:Navigation templates, but much of this are based on essays. Other than that, I don't know of any particular policy about championship team navigation templates. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 15:12, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Message From K.M.D1994

Guess What? A casting call has been issued for a VH1 reality dating show starring Frank Maresca (The Entertainer). The show is tentatively entitled "The Entertainer of Love".Didn't see that comin did you. I propose that you make it up to me and help me re-create the Frank Maresca page. What do you think? User:K.M.D1994 10:34, 4 December 2009 (UTC)

Considering there is no page for Daisy de la Hoya, I would say there is no need for a page for Frank Maresca. However, there could be grounds for creating The Entertainer of Love, once there is a confirmed premiere date. See Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/The_Entertainer_of_Love. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 16:07, 4 December 2009 (UTC)

Well, considering there is a page for reality stars like Tiffany Pollard, I would say there is a need for a page for Frank Maresca. There should be grounds for creating The Entertainer of Love page, once there is a confirmed premiere date. Agreed? —Preceding unsigned comment added by K.M.D1994 (talkcontribs) 16:18, 4 December 2009 (UTC)

I don't agree. Tiffany Pollard has been the main subject of several reality television shows. Maresca will tentatively be the subject of one. Hence, the comparison to Daisy de la Hoya is the most appropriate. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 16:22, 4 December 2009 (UTC)
I restored Frank the Entertainer... in a Basement Affair, now that there is an announced premiere date. Enjoy! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 18:14, 8 December 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Advice regarding template merger proposal

Hi Plastikspork (great user name, by the way), I'm looking for some advice regarding a recent template merger proposal. Nmajdan added generic merge templates to the talk pages of Template:Infobox serial killer and Template:Infobox mass murderer without providing a rational, creating a discussion or listing it at WP:TFD. When I contacted them about this, they left a short, vague note here and still haven't completed the merger proposal process or responded to my two notes on their talk page. I'm tempted to remove the generic merger templates and leave a note saying the merger proposal isn't valid until the steps outlined at WP:TFD are followed; however, that's not too civil. I could add the proper templates and list the proposal with Nmajdan's rational, but I'd like to be part of the merger discussion as well. What do you think? Thanks in advance, momoricks 23:08, 7 December 2009 (UTC)

I did see the merger proposal when it was first placed. You are correct, that there should be some rationale, or at least some structured discussion on the subject. I believe the implied reasoning would be that one template is a duplicate of the other. I would say the merger is not going to happen unless there is strong consensus to do so. As it stands right now, there appears only to be a strong opinion to not merge. If there are a few more votes against it, the discussion could be closed as "not merged". As you said, taking it to TFD would be a more formal method to force a decision. Otherwise, these things can stay open for some time. How about if we revisit the discussion in about a week and see if any progress has been made. If there is no progress, then I will close it as not merged. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 00:03, 8 December 2009 (UTC)
Sounds good. Thanks again, momoricks 01:51, 8 December 2009 (UTC)

[edit] New Moon (2009 film) and Eclipse (2010 film)

Both these two articles were recently submitted for a name change. I did agree with this name change in February, however, now I am a strong opposing factor in why the name should ramian New Moon and Eclipse with the signifigant other name in the first line of the articles.
WP:NCCN and WP:PRECISION both state the title should be "terms most commonly used", "A good article title is brief and to the point", "Prefer titles that follow the same pattern as those of other similar articles", "An article can only have one name; however significant alternative names for the topic should be mentioned in the article, usually in the first sentence or paragraph". "And despite earlier reports that the movie would be known as The Twilight Saga's New Moon, the title will remain New Moon according to the movie's rep. They just have Twilight Saga in the artwork to identify it for anyone less devoted than your average fanggirl."Source.
Also see WP:PRECISION. I quote from there: "Articles' titles usually merely indicate the name of the topic. When additional precision is necessary to distinguish an article from other uses of the topic name, over-precision should be avoided. Be precise but only as precise as is needed. For example, it would be inappropriate to name an article "United States Apollo program (1961–1975)" over Apollo program or "Nirvana (Aberdeen, Washington rock band)" over Nirvana (band). Remember that concise titles are generally preferred."
However, I personally do not think we have had enough input and would like input from people who might not like these movies, or just edit them to help wikipedia out. The pages are: Talk:New Moon (2009 film)#Requested move and Talk:Eclipse (2010 film)#Requested move. Any help/input would greatly be apriciated.ChaosMaster16 (talk) 22:06, 7 December 2009 (UTC)ChaosMaster16
