The creator of the article I deleted under CSD A8 was created by User:ChantalPerrichon, who I notified on their talk page of this deletion. Your subsequent recreation of LIP6 was deleted (and then undeleted, admitting the deletion was in error) by RasputinAXP. Please ensure you've got all the relevant facts to hand in future. - The article was a clear copyright violation. LIP6's website indicates that all content is copyright, and is not freely available to plunder. The fact a new user chose to create an account in that name is not indicative of copyright being waived. Wikipedia has to be exceedingly careful with copyright issues. - The fact that I notified the creator 18 minutes after I began to delete the twenty or so copyrighted images they uploaded, rather than before, is indeed a (minor) failure on my part to fully adhere to the exact letter of the precise law. Sorry, but no. A minor procedural error is not going to make me or any other admin knowingly restore material that is copyrighted. In addition, even if I was willing to contravene all good sense and do so, image deletions can not be reversed. - If you feel that mediation is required over this, then be my guest. I would ask that you hold off until June 5th, as (and you may be able to tell from my lack of contributions) I have limited net access at the moment. The user who created the copyvio page clearly knew wiki mark up text, was therefore not new, and should have been smart enough not to commit such flagrant copyright violation. - Sorry, but I don't care whether it was taken from the website of a commercial content provider, or, as is the case, not. The deletion was the correct call, even if not strictly within policy. You're free to copy the page and the copyrighted images again, from the french Wiki, or from LIP6's website, but I won't do it for you. The article then would go through the full deletion procedure. Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Bordeaux1.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. - I removed the external links since they are already on each university's page and the point of a list is to give links to related articles and not to their websites. The Outreach department has also undergone a major expansion, and this newsletter is the result of that.- The review department is currently under development, with several new proposals underway. Internal peer review had begun on the page of the project's Review Department. The department currently provides a centralized platform off all currently open reviews throughout the project (Featured Articles, Peer Reviews, Good Articles, Articles for Deletion, Categories for Discussion, etc.)
- A new task force has been introduced: the Paris task force. Any users interested in contributing to the taskforce can join on the project page.
- There is a current discussion about merging the French Communes WikiProject into ours. This communes project will be organised as a task force.

Hi, I see that you have been editing almost all articles on French Universities because they "are not public universities". I don't know where you got this idea, but this is completely wrong. - Hello, you do not have a talk page, so I am replying here. I am simply undoing edits by a user (total activity of perhaps one day), who classified non-universities as public universities. A public university is a well-defined entity in France. There are eighty-one of them, and I created and labeled many of the university articles myself, so I have no disagreement with labeling every bona fide public university as such. There are also several other categories of public institution of higher education and research in France. Each has its page. There's a page for grandes écoles, for instance. The institutes of technology have their page. By all means, please go ahead and create templates for these categories as well. -- MyPOV (talk) 15:24, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

- I agree that there are eighty-one French "universités", as stated above by User:MyPOV. So that MyPOV's view that Template:Public Universities in France should contain only the list of these 81 universities is somehow acceptable.
- BUT I still would like to highlight that this creates issues, for discussion hereafter.
- There are alternative (larger) lists of French university-grade higher education institutes that could be used as the improved list of Public Universities in France, as being similar in nature to equivalent lists of Universities in other countries (see below).

- -Établissement public à caractère scientifique, culturel et professionnel (EPCSP): I appreciate the new page translated yesterday by User:Prof-en-g.... related to Établissement public à caractère scientifique, culturel et professionnel (EPCSP). Two days ago, I tried to make this EPCSP list the actual list contained in Template:Public Universities in France, and this was withdrawn by User:MyPOV, as it includes more institutions than just the 81 universities. I note the above statement by User:Crusio related to ENS, which is actually part of the the list of EPCSP institutions.
- - Pôle de recherche et d'enseignement supérieur (PRES) : a reader could be surprised to note that University of Bordeaux (or more obvious fr:Université Paris-Est) is not part of the list of 81 universities, as it is a PRES. To make it short, a French PRES structure might in some cases be not too different from a Collegiate university. This is at odds with the fact that University of Cambridge is part of the list in Template:Universities in the United Kingdom, while University of Bordeaux is not in the France list.
- - In the French systems, there are also other public institutes with the word "université" in their name but that are not listed among the 81 universities. Examples include Université de technologie de Compiègne and two others French universities of technologies. I do not resist also mentioning fr:Université de tous les savoirs which is a totally different (virtual) entity in France.
- - In the French system, there are a number of institutions that are organised like a university but that are not with université in their name. The best example is Collège de France, which is an EPCSP-Grand établissement, similar as the case for Grenoble Institute of Technology.

- Here is how I see it: What constitutes a public university is very well defined in France. When the Ministry of Education produces its statistical reports on public universities, it reports on these 81 institutions. When the Minister of Education announces reforms to the universities, those reforms apply to those 81 institutions. So it is important for Wikipedia to be clear about precisely what those 81 institutions are. If there are other institutions that people might mistake for being public universities, such as the University of Bordeaux, then Wikipedia should make the distinctions clear to its readers. For all these reasons, it makes sense to have an article on the public universities of France, and it makes sense to have a template to navigate among those universities.

On the contrary: of course we should have articles on the grands établissements, of course we should have articles on the PRES and related institutions, etc. And for each of these categories, we should have navigation templates, to allow readers to easily move from one to the other.

My observation is that the work on these other sorts of institutions is not yet mature. Does Wikipedia really have a definitive list of PRES and related institutions? I didn't, by the way, see the grandes écoles in the proposed enlarged template, and it is not at all clear, at least to me, what the rationale is for including some institutions of higher education and research and not including others.

- So my recommendation is that we not weaken a very crisply defined category, but rather that we work to build up the other categories so that they too are well defined and clear. Start, for example, with the List of colleges and universities in France cited above. Frankly, right now, it's a mess! I've replied on the discussion page for Grandes écoles in the threads that you started regarding the removed ranking by Wikipedia page view statistics and the current list that has been tagged since July 2008 as being deficient. I fully support your effort to clean up the article.
