[edit] AfD nomination of Pokémon (subculture)
An editor has nominated Pokémon (subculture), an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").
Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Pokémon (subculture) and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:59, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Article importance scale for WikiProject Equine
Hello. WikiProject Equine is discussing an article importance scale here. Your POV would be appreciated. --Una Smith (talk) 17:18, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
A tag has been placed on Template:CategoryYearTOC2 requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.
If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{transclusionless}}</noinclude>).
Thanks. --MZMcBride (talk) 21:17, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Konyok2.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Konyok2.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Project FMF (talk) 22:19, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Image:Adventuregamers.png
I have tagged Image:Adventuregamers.png as {{no rationale}}, because it does not provide a fair use rationale. If you believe the image to be acceptable for fair use according to Wikipedia policy, please provide a rationale explaining as much, in accordance with the fair use rationale guideline, on the image description page. Some examples can be found at Wikipedia:Use rationale examples. Please also consider using {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags/Non-free. Thank you. Melesse (talk) 11:08, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not sure what happened there, but given my contribution history it is a bit of a stretch to call me a vandal. I suggest you assume good faith and maybe read up on personal histories before throwing around insults. It was a mistake - I've changed it to remove only the hoax entries. JuJube (talk) 17:40, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, I was wondering what was going on, since you reverted the article to its state before January 5, 2007. How does that happen? Anyway... the templates weren't meant to be insulting to your work as a whole and were meant to object to that particular edit only. I simply didn't (and don't) understand how such a huge change to an article can be done accidentally. Perhaps you're using an editing program that I'm not aware of in which that mistake is easily made?
- Also, thanks for pointing me to WP:DTTR, I was not aware of it. Esn (talk) 17:58, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
- As I said, it was an accident. Another user was pointing me to the edit history of the hoaxmonger (Movingimage (talk · contribs)) to be specific), and I accidentally reverted based on an old revision in that history. JuJube (talk) 18:00, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
- Alright, understood. I probably flied off the handle a bit myself. Is all good. ^_^ JuJube (talk) 18:07, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Achmed1.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Achmed1.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check
-
That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in. That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

- Understood, thanks. Though it would have been nice if you had mentioned the June 2010 release date in the article for the "Thor" film; I thought you had confused two different films. "Thor (2010 animated film)" should do nicely for the Icelandic one. Esn (talk) 22:40, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
A tag has been placed on Image:Lost World 1925 Still 01.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I8 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is available as a bit-for-bit identical copy on the Wikimedia Commons under the same name, or all references to the image on Wikipedia have been updated to point to the title used at Commons.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[ Talk:Image:Lost World 1925 Still 01.jpg|the talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. BJTalk 12:42, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Ultimateshowdown.gif)
Thanks for uploading Image:Ultimateshowdown.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:17, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
[edit] SnoutBusters Hoax!?
While it is not a known Hoax, I'll admit what i've written is original research, but its sure as heck not a hoax started by me. I "saw it somewhere," thinking back, it may have been a poor choice to base an article around it. I believe I started the article as a hope that a few other editors could pull up some information on it. CindyAbout/T/P/C/ 03:06, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
- Well, you're not giving me much to go on. How can anyone expand it when there is no place to start searching? There is no verifiable information in the article, not even vague rumours on an obscure site... Esn (talk) 03:11, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

- Your right, little information is available, flag for deletion and remake when more information is available. CindyAbout/T/P/C/ 03:18, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
I found this on a Google-cached version of this page (that's you posting, I assume):
"SnoutBusters is a movie planned to be made in russia. The information gathered about the movie was taken from a source that has since deleted the information, do we:
* Remove the article. * Find a new source. * Remove uncited claims. * Leave it.
Cindy Flynn (talk) 06:33, 25 June 2008 (UTC)"

- Well, as you can read, it is a law establishing the modalities of "state service" for "cossack societies". The law specifies the modalities under which federal, regional and municipal branches of power can conclude "service agreements" with the cossacks and the specifics of such agreements. It does not establish an autonomous Cossack region within Russia, nor does it give the Cossacks self-rule. I have not fully understood the exact implications of the law, as I'd need to see examples of its implementations and not just its text, but I believe that the "registered" (thus реестровые) cossacks have some special arrangements for military service, as well as having the right to assist law enforcement authorities and such. - Devil May Care, written by Sebastian Faulks ("writing as Ian Fleming"), has become Penguin Books fastest selling hardcover fiction title. It is the latest installment in the book series about British secret agent James Bond and was released to coincide with the 100th anniversary of late Bond creator Ian Fleming's birthday on May 28, 1908.
- Me Cheeta: the Autobiography, written by a ghostwriter, is the autobiography of Cheeta the Chimp who is listed in the Guinness World Records as the oldest recorded non-human primate at the age of 76. He has appeared in various movie roles which included twelve Tarzan movies and even battled addiction to alcohol and cigars. The book is not published until October 1, but judges for the 2008 Guardian First Book Award were sent a early version and were so impressed that they have included it on the 10-strong longlist.
- Stephenie Meyer, who is listed by Time magazine as one of its 100 most influential people of 2008, has decided not to continue with writing her draft for Midnight Sun after 12 chapters of the unfinished manuscript were leaked on the internet.
| - Current debates
- Categories for Discussion has a series of discussions about whether to categorize certain specific types of fictional characters: double agents, dictators, characters with eidetic memory, etc. Advice from any Novels project members would be valuable in assisting them.
- WikiProject Media franchises aims to help editors with the coordination of articles within the thousands of media franchises which exist and has requested input from our members. They are currently discussing a naming convention for franchise articles. Since this may affect one or more articles in our Novel project, they would like to get opinions before implimenting any changes.

[edit] Image source problem with Image:Wonderfullgrimm.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Wonderfullgrimm.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 17:03, 13 September 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 17:03, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Disputed non-free use rationale for Image:Wonderfullgrimm.jpg
Thank you for uploading Image:Wonderfullgrimm.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 17:04, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Image:Thiefwilliamsposter.jpg
I have tagged Image:Thiefwilliamsposter.jpg as {{no rationale}}, because it does not provide a fair use rationale. Thank you. Melesse (talk) 23:59, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

[edit] WP:RUSSIA roll call and your input required
Privet. You are receiving this message as you were listed on the membership list of WP:RUSSIA at Wikipedia:WikiProject Russia/Members. Recent times has seen minimal activity within WikiProject Russia, and there is an attempt to re-invigorate the project and have it become more organised into a fully-fledge functioning project, with the aim of increasing the quality of Russia-related articles across English wikipedia.
As we don't know which listed members are active within the project and Russia-related article, all listed members are receiving this message, and are requested to re-affirm their active status on Russia-related article by re-adding their username to Wikipedia:WikiProject Russia/Members by adding:
# {{User|YOURUSERNAME}}
to the membership list. You may also like to place {{User Russian Project}} on your userpage, as this will also place you in Category:WikiProject Russia members.
There is also an active proposal on the creation of a single WP:RUSSIA project. The proposal can be viewed at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Russia#Proposal_for_overhaul_and_creation_of_a_single_WP:RUSSIA_project, and your comments and suggestions are welcomed and encouraged at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Russia/Proposal.
We all look forward to your continued support of WP:RUSSIA and any comments you may have on the proposal. --Russavia Dialogue Stalk me 04:38, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
[edit] WP:FILMS Questionnaire
As a member of WikiProject Films, you are invited to take part in the project's first questionnaire. It is intended to gauge your participation and views on the project. At the conclusion of the questionnaire, the project's coordinators will use the gathered feedback to find new ways to improve the project and reach out to potential members. The results of the questionnaire will be published in next month's newsletter. If you know of any editors who have edited film articles in the past, please invite them to take part in the questionnaire. Please stop by and take a few minutes to answer the questions so that we can continue to improve our project. Happy editing!

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (File:Manwithmoviecamera2.jpg)
Thanks for uploading File:Manwithmoviecamera2.jpg.
Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:15, 12 January 2009 (UTC) Theatrical releases as well as made-for-TV and direct-to-video movies are included. ==
[edit] Response
The List of package films had only 2 edits, neither by you. It looks like you edited List of animated package films, which is alive and well and probably doesn't need to be sent to AfD unless you think so. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 17:43, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks, you are in fact correct. Sorry for bothering you with this misunderstanding. Esn (talk) 00:47, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
- No wait, I suspect what actually happened is a certain user moved the article to "list of animated package films". A redirect should perhaps be added, considering that a number of redlinks now go to the deleted page. Esn (talk) 00:51, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Image copyright problem with File:Welcome1986.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:Welcome1986.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check
-
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
- That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

This addition you made has me somewhat puzzled. The source doesn't seem to say that. Specifically, there is one mention that the PAC considered a single police action to be unfair – but no mention of such complaints by the DA and Cope. Also, the article does not put the allegation that the Youth League "does the dirty business" in the mouths of the opposition. Could you perhaps have a look at that again? 9Nak (talk) 09:54, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
- I apologize if I made a mistake - I may not have read the article correctly. In normal circumstances I would try to fix my error, but this week and the following one are very busy for me, so I'm not sure I'll get the chance. Please change the article in whatever way you think is best, and I'll take another look at it in a week or two... Esn (talk) 23:17, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
[edit] May 2009
This is the last warning you will receive for your disruptive edits, such as those you made to David Barstow. If you vandalize Wikipedia again, you will be blocked from editing. I have rewritten your recent contrib, and explained that at talk:David Barstow#Media coverage. If i am missing something here, please inform me promptly why you should not be blocked for vandalistic editing, pending the start of an RFC on your long-term status, for having grossly falsified the substance of what you attributed to the source that you cited.
--Jerzy•t 00:15, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
- Please assume good faith next time. My edit was basically correct. Note in the article, "By whom were these "ties to companies" undisclosed and for whom did these deeply conflicted retired generals pose as "analysts"? ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, CNN and Fox -- the very companies that have simply suppressed the story from their viewers. ". I don't mind that you changed the wording a bit to use less controversial language, but your strong-arm scare tactics are neither appreciated nor warranted. Esn (talk) 00:50, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
- In hindsight, the previous wording was indeed a synthesis of information. But as far as I can tell, synthesis is not considered vandalism on Wikipedia ("any addition, removal, or change of content made in a deliberate attempt to compromise the integrity of Wikipedia"). My mistake was being clumsy and posting the natural conclusion that I came to from reading the article rather than merely the symptoms that it described. However, for some reason you immediately assumed that my intention was malicious and threatened to ban me over it. I find this unbecoming of any Wikipedia editor, particularly an administrator, and I would like an apology. Esn (talk) 01:16, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
I had not yet completed my reply to your apparently ill-considered first version before receiving the second.
I guess i must confess to some kind of culpability in my looser use of "vandalism" than the policy (reflecting my sense that there is no bright line between intent to post false information and posting information that the editor should have known was false -- whose consequences are likely to survive longer). Does it make sense, instead of apologizing, for me to forgo asking for one for your hair-trigger response to my good-faith (if harshly worded) invitation to explain how the edit could be innocent? Oh, glad i previewed: or for your obscuring the record, by moving your strongest words away from the hair-trigger where you first said them, to ... well, to what is actually your 3rd version?
In any case, i should not try to decide tonite whether or how to finish my response-in-progress to what else your version 1 raises. May i bid you good e'en?
--Jerzy•t 02:38, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
- Sigh. Do what you wish. I really, truly don't have time for a long quarrel right now; it's exam period over here. If you do decide to push for my banishment, I hope that my good record of contribution over the past four years will count for something with other editors. Esn (talk) 02:46, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
That's easier to answer quickly: i'm pretty sure i've never initiated an RFC, but i don't think it has to have a definite goal, and at this point my real concern is not that you need to driven away -- but rather that it should be determined whether you can, in light of more voices, and more convincing ones, than just mine, be convinced of something. Namely, that much greater care than that one edit showed (and than you showed in at least your 1st reaction when challenged -- which i admit is a situation presumably emotionally unlike a strong majority of edits, and perhaps emotionally like only edits so rare to be unworthy of consideration). My hope is that your record shows my concern (arising in a context free of knowledge of that record) is disproportionate to that record, and also that the process puts things into a perspective for you where such edits become ever rarer. And i would hope, FWIW, that i could initiate an RFC and bow out with confidence that others better suited than i would follow it to an appropriate conclusion. Certainment, je suis non votre Javert! In particular, i would oppose letting it get more than nominally under way while you are indisposed by the demands on you out in meat space.

[edit] Editing survey
Hi. My name is Mike Lyons and I am a doctoral student at Indiana University. I am conducting research on the writing and editing of high traffic current events articles on Wikipedia. I have noticed in the talk page archives at 2008 South Ossetia war that you have contributed to the editing or maintenance of the article. I was hoping you would agree to fill out a brief survey about your experience. This study aims to help expand our thinking about collaborative knowledge production. Believe me I share your likely disdain for surveys but your participation would be immensely helpful in making the study a success. A link to the survey is included below. An explanation of my project is included with the survey.

[edit] Category:ASIFA international animation film festivals
I've nominated Category:ASIFA international animation film festivals for renaming. It's a fairly routine CfR but I get the feeling pendulum may swing towards deleting on the basis that such accreditation is not defining. Please do weigh in if you like. [edit] Fair use rationale for File:Thieflogo.png
Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Thieflogo.png. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
