[edit] Financial Literacy and Education Commission

Financial Literacy and Education Commission

The Financial Literacy and Education Commission (the Commission) was established under Title V, the Financial Literacy and Education Improvement Act which was part of the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACT) Act of 2003, to improve financial literacy and education of persons in the United States. The FACT Act named the Secretary of the Treasury as head of the Commission and required 19 other federal agencies and bureaus to participate in the Commission. The Commission coordinates the financial education efforts throughout the federal government, supports the promotion of financial literacy by the private sector while also encouraging the synchronization of efforts between the public and private sectors. [1]

[edit] National strategy

Taking Ownership of the Future: The National Strategy for Financial Literacy is a comprehensive blueprint for improving financial literacy in America, published by the Commission. This national strategy covers 13 areas of financial education and contains 26 specific calls to action.[2]

[edit] Municipal authorities in other states

The next step could be what you suggest, extending the process we did in Pennsylvania to other states. Here are some issues.

[edit] Refining the process

Perhaps we need to refine the process. We especially should have a full description of the process, an expansion of what you have already written in "How this list was compiled" on the list talk page. Beyond that, there should be a description of how the individual county lists were created, which includes the talk page and the References section.

[edit] Choosing the state

Pennsylvania is a large state, with a great many municipal governments and municipal authorities, second only to Illinois in that regard. I would choose a small state with far fewer municipal authorities next, and especially northeast states that I am more likely to know about already. For example, how many municipal authorities are there in Delaware, which has only three counties.

[edit] Category:Municipal authorities in Pennsylvania

Having started out with the idea of creating a large number of municipal authority stubs, and then switching to lists, the next effort could be to create municipal authority stubs in counties where it would be helpful to have stub articles to start out with, created by some automated process and producing stub articles that could be easily expanded. Philadelphia county would be a good place to start. Carrying this idea a bit further, if the stub articles were created in a sandbox, I could improve each one in a single place, and then move an improved and perhaps a no longer stub article to main space when I was ready.

[edit] Category:Pennsylvania counties

Here each of the county articles should have a ==See also== * [[List of municipal authorities in Elk County, Pennsylvania]]<nowiki/> inserted. See [[Elk County, Pennsylvania]] for one already done. There are other improvements that can be made in county articles. See [[Talk:Elk County, Pennsylvania]] for two talk page entries that I need to incorporate in the article itself, using WebCite in some instances, and also http://toolserver.org/~magnus/makeref.php for inline citations. There may be a way to use AWB for that effort, but I am still on the learning curve for AWB.
