User:Otis Criblecoblis is an alternate account for User:Dekkappai, to be used for editing articles on Japanese subjects outside of the subject area of Japanese erotic cinema, in which the mildly offensive meaning in Japanese of the username Dekkappai may be considered inappropriate.

[edit] Harmon

I'm sorry for reverting your edit. I had seen a comment made by an anonymous user, who had inserted his comments in the middle of the page. I saw your edit that said r to Golbez and I thought it meant revert to Golbez, so I undid it. Then for some reason I thought the edit I undid was Gs so I asked him why he deleted a valid comment. I hope you understand there was no intent, or sense in me deleting your comment as it pro-inclusion. -Stillwaterising (talk) 22:56, 7 November 2009 (UTC) It's all good now. No action required by you. Stillwaterising (talk) 22:58, 7 November 2009 (UTC)

No problem. Thanks for the notification. Dekkappai (talk) 23:02, 7 November 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Ping

I've sent you an e-mail. I hope it survives your spam filter. --Tenmei (talk) 18:52, 19 November 2009 (UTC)

Hi Tenmei. It got around the spam filtering, and I've replied. Dekkappai (talk) 22:18, 19 November 2009 (UTC)

[edit] WP:IAR

In another place, you said you do not believe WP:IAR applies to blocking.

My reading of Ignore All Rules is it applies anywhere and everywhere, but with the following caveats:

  • You only know it was successful when nobody complains
  • If you are wrong about your action, you can be held accountable. This means you can lose bits or be blocked or banned yourself.

I don't think Ryan's block was a case of IAR, but rather a case of interpreting what he believed to be ARBCOM's wishes on the matter. Whether he was correct in interpreting ARBCOM's wishes or not does not negate that, by all appearances, he acted in good faith. Likewise, Nihonjoe apparently acted in good faith in calling Ryan to task, as from Nihonjoe's point of view Ryan was acting on a whim. The solution to the drama should have been clearer communication all around, either on-wiki or in email between the administrators and/or ARBCOM. The solution to the question of the validity of the block is what ultimately happened: ARBCOM stepped in and took responsibility for the block. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 01:02, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the note, david. Actually, I skimmed through IAR before posting that, because it's just been a gut-feeling of mine for a while, that ideas originally meant only for communal editing have been co-opted to sections of the project for which they were not designed, and for which they do not work well. I found nothing that contradicted my impression that IAR was meant only for editing. But I'm no authority, have no intention of ever running for Admin, and read through the rules only when I have no choice. This discussion is the deepest I've ever delved into Wiki-bureaucracy, so take any of my comments just as concerned bystander :) Cheers! Dekkappai (talk) 01:08, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
WP:IAR, as a policy, may indeed be only for editing, but as a philosophy, it exists everywhere, on- and off-wiki. It exists in all rule-based human societies. When one invokes IAR or the real world, one is saying "I think I did the right thing even if I had to break a few rules to do it, if you disagree, call me on it, I'm willing to pay the penalty." davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 01:54, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
Wouldn't argue with that... now "consensus"-based definitions of "Notability" might be a different matter... Dekkappai (talk) 01:57, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
When it comes to consensus on notability, some people think the only consensus that counts is the one between me, myself, and I. </humor> davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 02:27, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Category:Films directed by 加戸敏

Greetings, long time no see! Do you think you could do me a favour and translate the director's name for the articles in this category? Thanks in advance. PC78 (talk) 00:20, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

Hi, PC78-- Yeah, I've self-exiled myself to Japanese erotic cinema. Lonely, but pleasant work :) ... allcinema gives the director's name as "かと びん" or "Bin Kato". I'll go ahead and set up the category under my Japanese non-porn alias. Good to hear from you! Dekkappai (talk) 00:45, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
Thanks a lot! PC78 (talk) 01:39, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
