[edit] Wikiquotes

Noticed your removal of quotes from Gone with the Wind (film) with the explanation that they "go in Wikiquotes." Can you explain this? Are you saying that quotes are not allowed on a movie article? Are you saying that since Wikiquotes exists as a new depository of quotations, that they must be put there if quotes are included? If so, can you give a link to the rule?

I also don't see any link in the article to Wikiquotes where I assume you moved the quotes. Did you move them there, and if so did can you include a link so people reading the article can simply click on it and read them? Is there some tag that is used to inform readers about this?

Hate to ask all these questions, but your removal of a lot of material with your simple, and somewhat authoritative explanation, leaves no option. You might want to put this topic, when you reply, in the discussion area of the article so we'll all understand. Thanks. Wikiwatcher1 (talk) 02:59, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

[edit] 1-2-3 (band)

Hey. I've declined your Speedy Deletion nom on this article. You cited Criteria R1, but the redirect appears to go to a valid target (a band that was once known by this title), and is not a deleted article or this article (i.e. it's not circular). Is there another reason or criteria for deleting this article that I've missed? Thanks in advance, UltraExactZZ Claims ~ Evidence 19:37, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Sonny Rollins

The Allmusic link is still isdirected to another artist. I was going to just re-link to the Rollins biography there, but then I noticed that the Nastos biography doesn't provide support for the "Rollins himself initially feared sobriety would impair his musicianship" quote? AllyD (talk) 22:15, 9 September 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Hector Zazou

Thanks for your work on the Hector Zazou page. I added the infobox and image, but I hadn't done one before, so I got some stuff wrong. K8 fan (talk) 17:30, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

The Sound on Sound article I linked to is an excellent career overview, and should serve well as an additional reference so the article doesn't rely so heavily on the All Music bio. K8 fan (talk) 17:32, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Southern hip hop

JBsupreme seems unreasonable about this. Why does he have a bee in his bonnet about this page. Did you do something to piss him off? (No worries if you did, wikipedia policy is that the person who gets pissed off is in the wrong.)

Our strategy must be 3 fold.

1. Calmly discuss the evolution of the page on the talk page.

2. Provide citations for the page. Use google. Cite mercilessly throughout the page.

3. We must both watch the page together. However, each of us must not revert the page more than 3 times within 24 hours. I have already reverted the page twice, and would prefer not to revert it a 3rd time. Read the 3 reverts rule WP:3RR.

I have provided some additional citations, and I have left a note on JBsupreme's talk page asking him to please calm down. I have also started a talk section on the talk page about how to react when an article lacks citations.

Hopefully this will fix things!

best regards, Lawrencekhoo lk (talk) 18:45, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

Just a few hints on how to avoid similar situations. Remember, to be a good wikipedian, there are some things you should do when editing. Firstly, do NOT write down everything that you think you know about the subject. Remember, No Original Research means that you MUST be able to cite references to back up ALL statements. If you can't find out where you read it, it must NOT go in. Statements must not go in because "I know this is true, I was there" that would violate Wikipedia:No original research. Facts can only go in an article if it appears in a reliable source.

Remember, the standard for wikipedia is "Verifiability, not Truth". lk (talk) 18:56, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

I'm going to stop watching Southern hip hop, as I've got a lot of things on my plate at the moment. If you need my help undoing a blanking, so that you don't break 3RR, drop me a note on my talk page. Goodluck, lk (talk) 06:23, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

I've just added my comments to the discussion at WP:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents, as I think JBsupreme was out of line. However, on your part, you also have to change your editing style as well. You make contentious statements, that NEED to be sourced, and then fight to keep them up without sources. E.g. "Southern hip hop is considered among the big three American hip hop genres including East Coast hip hop and West Coast hip hop". Once challenged, a strong statement like that (which frankly seems POV) needs to be either edited so that it becomes a weaker innocuous statement, or it should be removed until it can be properly sourced. It's ok to just add everything you think is true to an article, but please don't fight to keep everything that you wrote there. Other users are going to clean it up, and you just have to accept that. We don't 'own' the articles we write, see WP:OWN. lk (talk) 18:03, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

[edit] mushrooms etc.

Hello Cosprings, nice to see another editor interested in editing articles on mushrooms. I noticed you set up a wikiproject on mushrooms. There is, however, already a Fungi which is pretty quiet (there are 4 or 5 people occasionally editing fungus articles at the moment, some of whom visit this wikiproject from time to time), thus having a separate mushroom wikiproject just means another place to check for messages etc. which you will have to post questions at two projects etc to get answers. without adding any extra benefit. I think it is best merged into the fungus wikiproject. Cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 14:34, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

PS: Species articles should be at scientific names, not common ones. Funny, I was just writing this massage as yours came up. Cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 14:34, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

A clever thing is to try and expand a new or stubby article and get it on the front page via T:TDYK. I have gotten alot there that way. Cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 14:36, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Mislocated AFD comment

Hi - just a heads up a comment you left on an AFD (I don't know which one) has ended up all by its lonesome near the top of this page (right under the table of contents). If someone doesn't get there before you, you might want to look into this and make sure your comment is located in the correct spot so that it can apply to whatever AFD you were commenting on. Cheers! 23skidoo (talk) 16:05, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

[edit] African Brazilian

The merging of African Brazilian and African Brazilian Culture was still being discussed. There is no clear consensus until now. I intend to translate the text from the Portuguese Wikepedia and then, when the article become very large, to part it again. If you do not agree, please discuss in the discussion page of the article. I also put there my opinion.

--Quissamã (talk) 07:12, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

I´ve said I will not revert, but, as soon as it become a long article, I intend to split it again.

If we follow this rule of only providing sources in the language of the wiki, then this article should be erased as most articles about Brazil. I think only Brazilians are writing articles about Brazil in the English Wikipedia.

--Quissamã (talk) 16:08, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

Please, write your opinion about why this article should not be split in the article discussion page. I think that both articles concerned diferent things and that both could be substantially expanded. You merged the articles without justifying your action.

--Quissamã (talk) 16:19, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

When you moved the tables, you caused the loss of format. Part of the text became separated. The original position kept the text next to the table where the related information was.

The gallery has a duplicate image, although are different pictures. The main purpose of the slave images was to show (a few of) the different etnicities of Africans that were brought to Brazil. Now the gallery mix images of people and culture.

[edit] Prods

Just a friendly reminder to use an edit summary when proposing deletion for an article. Edit summary usage is always good, but it is especially important that edit summaries are used when proposing deletion. The reason for this is that articles proposed for deletion that later have the {{prod}} tag removed should not be proposed for deletion again, but rather sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. The only easy way to check if an article was previously proposed for deletion is to look at the edit history and the edit summaries people have left before. It is also considered courteous to notify the article's creator and other significant contributors that you have proposed an article for deletion. You can use {{subst:PRODWarning|Article title}} ~~~~ for this. For your convenience, this line is generated at the end of the "prod" box after you have added it to the article. Thanks! --Tikiwont (talk) 09:38, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks for

cleaning up after me at Earl Palmer. I am often not so encyclopedic in my edits and you made them that without sacrificing anything. Earl might be dead, but life is still good. Carptrash (talk) 14:36, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Pappo

These albums will have to be deleted via AfD or PROD. (or possibly merged), The definition of no context in WP:CSD does not apply to these-- it is obvious what they are about. Incidentally, when you place a deletion tag, say so on the edit summary--it helps identify those edits.DGG (talk) 19:12, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Proposed deletion of Spell My Name Right: The Album

Ambox warning yellow.svg

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Spell My Name Right: The Album, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. —Hello, Control Hello, Tony 04:06, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Boris Efimov

Just noticed that you have uprated the article to High importance within Wikipedia:WikiProject_Russia. Looks too high to me. He was, probably, highly visible, but what makes him stand out among other Pravda columnists, other than his longevity? Stepping away from Pravda, Lev Landau is mid, Fyodor Pavlovich Reshetnikov is mid, Andrei Tupolev (father) is Low (this one is off mark on the opposite side) IMO, Efimov is Mid ... Anyway, WP:Russia is being overhauled right now, it was stagnant but it may take off, your ideas on grading articles will be welcomed. NVO (talk) 19:23, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

[edit] DJ Smallz

Hi Cosprings. Just to let you know, I declined the speedy-delete of this article, as notability was sufficiently asserted. If you believe the sources are inadequate, it should be discussed at AfD. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 23:21, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

[edit] List of terrorist incidents, 2008

Saw your post on there on Sept. 22nd. What attack were you talking about? Perhaps someone can help if you listed the city. Or even a search on google could yield the necessary result. Lihaas (talk) 17:31, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

[edit] JBsupreme

I think he's acting within acceptable limits, as long as he's not blanking articles, or removing paragraphs that have been appropriately cited (you can cite at the end of the paragraph, if the source clearly backs the information in the paragraph). If you disagree with what he has done, edit it back, and leave a reason in the edit summary or the talk page. If you get into an edit war with him, call me over for a third party evaluation. Nadia Nerina Pardon if I don't do this correctly. I'm rather new. On the Nadia Nerina article, in the box with the photo, her date of death was October 6; I couldn't figure out how to change this? thanks FUnambulesFunambules (talk) 00:37, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Braxton discography

I would have sought consensus on the relevant talk pages before making this move, but it's done now. --Richardrj talk email 14:53, 13 November 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Ivan Southall

I'm baffled by your adding the 'Refimprove' tag to the Ivan Southall article. It seems well supported with good references to me. I added a link to the ABC news announcement, if that's what you wanted - it was easily accessible from the WP 'recent death' notice anyway. If there's anything else could you let me know? - Otherwise I'll remove the tag. Robina Fox (talk) 18:05, 15 November 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy deletion of emptied categories

Just as a heads-up, A3 is not the speedy deletion criterion one should use for empty categories. Use C1 instead, which specifies that the category has been emptied and may be deleted after a specified waiting period. SchuminWeb (Talk) 04:23, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Hampton Hawes Discography

Well, that's a point about the misleading nature of the word "Selected" if what is intended is eventually to have a reasonably complete discography. Still, it is equally misleading to have just "Discography" when what is there is not nearly complete. Just adding the tag about improving the section does not suggest how it might be improved; what might be lacking might have nothing to do with how complete it is, for all the reader knows at first sight. However, I am taking the hint about more information being on the talk page, and I will add something more specific in a note there. I would complete the discography myself, but I am just involved in too many other things right now. It looks like quite a big job, to judge from what I see in the discography pointed to by the link.

This Nathan Davis looks like a good and probably unfairly overlooked tenor man. Glad you pointed him out. And, yes, that is certainly a good example of an article on a jazz musician, at the stub level, at least. I will add, though, that in Davis's case, what is in the discography might very well be complete. I suspect that he did not record all that much, or he would be better known.

Anyhow, the most important thing is that there are some of us who are trying to improve these jazz articles, out of, presumably, a love of the music and the desire to propagate information about it. You keep up the good jazz work too! --Alan W (talk) 04:30, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

Correction: the tag does use the word "expand" so it's not as vague as it seemed to me at first. Still, I think some more explanation of how it should be expanded, and why, helps, so I did put a note on the talk page. --Alan W (talk) 04:47, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Odetta and IMDb

I must confess I share your concerns with this as a source; my inclination from experience is to trust the front page for a film or actor but nothing much beyond that. I know from experience that they will remove dubiously-sourced material, but that depends on it being reported in the first place. Allmovies.com, whilst apparently being a better source with regards to completeness, is still a commercial site. Perhaps this needs looking into. --Rodhullandemu 23:02, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Rip Rig & Panic

I don't follow yr removal of the DAB topline to the Kirk lp - it seems the right thing to have given that the page doesn't have band in its title? AllyD (talk) 14:19, 6 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy deletion of Nice and Hard

Ambox warning pn.svg

A tag has been placed on Nice and Hard requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an album which does not indicate why its subject is important or significant, and where the artist's article has never existed, has been deleted or is eligible for deletion itself. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for music.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Wolfer68 (talk) 07:20, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] No content in Category:Mr. 3-2 albums

Information icon.svg

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Category:Mr. 3-2 albums, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Category:Mr. 3-2 albums has been empty for at least four days, and its only content has been links to parent categories. (CSD C1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Category:Mr. 3-2 albums, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. [edit] Thanks & happy editing!

Thanks for removing that bit from the Turrentine article. I wasn't happy with it there, but the last time I felt bold and removed blatant instrument publicity from a sax player's article (most of the younger ones are getting out of hand) I got my fingers burnt, so decided to leave well alone. On a lighter note, thanks for plodding on improving stuff here at Wikipedia. Cheers!--Technopat (talk) 23:22, 14 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] John E. Sprizzo and refimprove

You recently added a {{Refimprove}} tag to the article John E. [edit] Your edit to Joe L. Kincheloe

Hello. Is there a particular reason you removed the {{cleanup-jargon}} tag from the Joe L. Kincheloe article without actually resolving the issue? Sentences in the article such as "postformalism posits that mainstream psychology has historically dismissed the cognitive abilities of those who fall outside of whiteness, the middle and upper socio-economic classes, dominant colonizing cultures, and patriarchy" would appear to be the poster child of an article desperately needing to be de-jargonized. --Kralizec! [edit] Jean Pelletier

Just to warn you there is no consensus for changing individual category/defaultsort listings to "lifetime" templates; this is strongly advised against on the lifetime template documentation. Jarry1250 (talk) 15:36, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

[edit] your removal of many complete sections from the Hip hop music article

I acknowledge the fact the material is completely unsourced but is it likely to be challenged? Did you deem it necessary to remove all those sections because you believe it to be untrue or simply because it's not sourced? As stated in WP:V "Editors should provide a reliable source for quotations and for any material that is challenged or likely to be challenged, or the material may be removed." You've made no attempt thus far to provide references for any of that content nor given any explanation why you think it should be removed besides it being "completely unsourced". I'm sure you're knowledgeable about the subject as deemed by your edits to Hip hop and if you've already been planning on cleaning up the Hip hop music article (which I'm sure is more about mainstream pop record sales than the culture) than disregard this. Personally I think Hip hop says enough on the topic and Hip hop music isn't really needed, so I'm not going to get into any kind of edit war over whole sections being removed, especially when there's ample amounts of information on the subject everywhere else, it just irks me when I see content being removed without any explanation or attempts to fix it. Just felt like ranting :) OlEnglish (talk) 01:41, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Sing Me a Song of Songmy

Just finished wikifying the article - this one was a real challenge because I don't have a copy myself and had to dig deep to get a complete (I hope!) personnel list and an original album cover - anyway now that thats done I have another album to place on my must buy list - although its not highly rated the descriptions I came across have sparked my interest DISEman (talk) 02:20, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Lifetime vs YOB and YOD categories

Hi. I would like just to inform you that there is no consensus in chaning well established categories with Lifetime. These edits are nonconstructive. -- Magioladitis (talk) 00:17, 17 January 2009 (UTC) I noted that another editor already informed you and you still did this edit. -- Magioladitis (talk) 00:19, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

It's no problem to add it in articles don't have YOB/YOD categories but to change already established categories. Please don't do that. Friendly, Magioladitis (talk) 00:24, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

You can always express your opinion in Template talk:Lifetime but please read WP:OWNERSHIP as well. -- Magioladitis (talk) 01:12, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Your Opinion Regarding the Hip Hop Articles

Robotom, you are the only one who objects to getting rid of this terrible, unsourced, unprofessional hip hop music article, which poorly attempts to duplicate the roots of hip hop, golden age hip hop, old and new school, and main hip hop articles. It is totally unnecessary and a hindrance on the improvement of the other articles. As soon as I redirected it to hip hop, the main article was edited many times and started to improve. Splitting up the subject only makes each of the other articles worsen. I cannot see how you could possibly think this is the best way for the subject to be organized. You need to back down on this issue, because everyone disagrees with you and your tyrannical treatment of the article is disappointing. Cosprings (talk) 13:49, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

Actually, Cosprings (your somewhat breathless accusations notwithstanding), you are incorrect. It would seem that your pattern of attempted Article Ownership and consensus evasion, such as here and here as well as non-neutral POV editing, belie your projections of tyrranical ambitions onto me. I have nothing personal against you, and hope to work with you on raising all of the Hip hop related articles to FA status. However, even with an assumption of good faith, I have noted that your opinion of which articles are "sourced" and "professional" changes as you move your edits. It is also curious that although you claim that I alone stand as the gatekeeper between you and the perfection you seek, you are extremely hesitant to bring your issues up on Wikipedia:WikiProject Hip hop or Wikipedia:WikiProject African diaspora, which hold these articles within their scope. Just food for thought. Cheers -RoBoTamice 14:54, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

You are the only one reverting back my redirect. You are the only one who thinks it is a good idea. Why are you the only one?Cosprings (talk) 00:09, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
Well...Not exactly, my friend. Still, I appreciate your passion and truly hope to work with you. I think if you honestly look through your edits on the hip hop articles, you will agree. The fact is, there is enough sourced material for both a FA culture and music article (even after the blatant NNPOV material is removed). -RoBoTamice 15:30, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

The discography is still incomplete... So there is more stuff to add especially the '80s. I've been working it chronologically maily using Freddie Hubbard Hub-Tunes as a reference point but the disography pages have recently (since his death) has been hijacked to link to a Jazz photo site. [edit] 'Round Midnight (song)

Hi, I've removed the "Renditions" sections, which you recreated here, from the "'Round Midnight" article. As I explained earlier on the article's talk page when I first removed the list, none of the albums listed actually includes the song. I'm sure it's just a misunderstanding. If someone creates a Straight, No Chaser (song) article in the future, the list could of course be included there. Jafeluv (talk) 12:56, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Last of the Hipmen

AHA! Looks like there are 2 albums titled Last of the Hipmen (just as there are two titled Flowers for Albert)

The Red release is the one my article is based on and further details are available below [3] [wallofsound.wordpress.com/2008/01/20/david-murray-quartet-last-of-the-hipman/]

There is another - The label reads Jazzline but the spine says Delta. Musically it's just what you would expect from Murray for this period.

Line up is - Murray, Dave Burrell, Hugh Ragin, Wilber Morris, Bobby Battle and Paul Zauner, trombone on tracks 2, 4 & 7. Recorded Studio Cornet Cologne 12, 13, 14 July 1989. Tracklisting is: 1. With an 'E' Please 2. So Spiritual 3. Punalu Peter 4. Chazz 5. Hughe Blues 6. Ballad For The Blackman 7. Pain.

see [[4] II'm not sure if this is a boot or what but it has certainly slipped under the radar of all the discographers

Thanks for alerting me to this one DISEman (talk) 03:17, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy deletion of Impulsive! Revolutionary Jazz Reworked

Ambox warning pn.svg

A tag has been placed on Impulsive! Revolutionary Jazz Reworked requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a musical recording which does not indicate why its subject is important or significant, and where the artist's article has never existed, has been deleted or is eligible for deletion itself. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for music.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. [edit] The DISEman Project

Thanks for your appreciation. There are many artists on my 'to do' list including all that you mentioned. It may take some time though as I've just moved house. The good news is that this has resulted in me getting my entire jazz collection in one place and a better internet connection. So expect to see some more housework on artists from me soon.

One hint on avoiding deletion problems is to ensure that there is at least one good reference in the article. I generally use Allmusic or record label sites. Also check out Moonriddengirls album creation page (I linked it previously on this page) for great info on creating album articles. DISEman (talk) 06:19, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Reply

I respect your work and appreciate your efforts. I definitely do. But no such templates should be created. These two are legends. But such templates are impossible and never made. Regarding pages which have articles or not, it doesn't matter. There should always be a fair presentation of lists regardless of what Wikipedia includes or not. And I don't think it's possible to make it for someone who's composed over 270 movie soundtracks. Another point is your removal of important templates, such "Bollywood" (this one is important) and stub templates.

I ask you not to revert anything as of now. If you still feel the templates should come back, please start a discussion on the respective talk pages of the Burmans. Regards, ShahidTalk2me 13:52, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

It doesn't matter: that you "don't think it's possible" It doesn't matter: that "These two are legends." It doesn't matter: that you think there "should always be a fair presentation"

Why do you believe that your edits would be dominant to my mine? You are wrong, you are in complete ignorance about how this website functions. Templates such as these are in use in almost EVERY such musician article, despite there being potential for hundreds of articles. See the Grateful dead template. It's huge. And also, what do you mean "mentioned by me"? In the filmography section? I am not the one who mentioned it. The section is meant to be on its way to a complete filmography, completeness is always the goal on wk. Just because it isn't there yet doesn't mean delete it all. Absolutely mind-boggling that you would believe this do be a proper action. Cosprings (talk) 14:00, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

I warn you, Please stop revering me unless you start a discussion. You call my edits vandalism and this could result in your own problem. Filmographies are means for actors and filmmakers, not the singers and the composers. This is not up to a WP standard. See WP:FILM.
And there "should always be a fair presentation" is not what I think, it's Wikipedia's policy called WP:NPOV. ShahidTalk2me 14:03, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
OK, I'll start an ANI about you. POV, removal of important templates. Let's see. ShahidTalk2me 14:06, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

Yea, okay you go ahead. POV and "removal of important (?) template". You realize, template are supposed to only be on pages which are contained within that template. So the bollywood template belongs on NONE of the articles on which you call it important. Also Lata was not the composer, so a filmography section would make less sense. But it is normal for a film score composer. You have been consistently wrong about just about every single thing you have mentioned.Cosprings (talk) 14:08, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

So go and read WP:TEMPLATE. If you don't know then don't say. There have been many discussions about this. You are late. ShahidTalk2me 14:13, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

For the record in my own view there is nothing wrong with having filmographies in film composer articles I agree with Cosprings. I've added them myself to various European and Spanish language film composer articles. It is pretty normal and meets requirements with citing author/musicians.actors works, discographies, bibliographies, filmographies etc. But you would have to list all of the films possibly in a seperate article. User:Lugnuts has generated thousands of articles anyWAY with a "Selected filmography" so its not really POV. I disagree however with having a navigation template as it was agreed by consensus not to have one on actors or other people in films except for directors or award winning films. The navigation template I agree with Shahid is redundant, especially with selected films. And yes if somebody wants to list a filmography for Lata go for it but it would need to be in a sperate article obviously! Dr. Blofeld White cat 14:14, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

Thats why we have Template:Bollywood and lists of films by year to connect all these articles together. FOr individual filmographies other than director these films are generally listed in a filmography section in their main article other than a template. Amitabh Bachchan is a notable actor and a template for his film might be useful but it is not generally accepted. Trust me on this one. A full filmography listing maybe a Filmography of Sachin Dev Burman is acceptable, a selected template placed in every on of the film articles isn't ok?

Reason why:

The difference between a template fo the grateful dead and Burman is that the articles are the primary works of The Grateful Dead. Burman is not the primary creator of these films, the director/producer is, this is why we have templates for composers/musicians but not for film composers. Dr. Blofeld White cat 14:24, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

Yes but he wasn't the authority of the films so a primary template is not acceptable. Besides which you can create a category for this cause NOT a template. If you add a category Category:Film scores composed by Sachin Dev Burman to all of the articles then you have my full support and this links all of the films he composed for together without cluttering up all the articles with unneccessary templates and would seme to solve your problem? Dr. Blofeld White cat 14:33, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

Templates do clutter articles. Thierry Henry for instance. Dr. Blofeld White cat 14:43, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] R D Burman

See Category:Filmographies. R D Burman gave music for over 250 films. As the filmography gets expanded and is styled per Wikipedia:Manual of Style (lists of works), it's better to have a separate article. And it finishes the edit war :-) Good work on the article, by the way. utcursch | talk 14:36, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

Rubbish,. Quality of articles come from text and bulk of quality content, images and references and evidence of wide research in sources not because an article has some template at the bottom connecting a handful of articles together. If you are serious about improving quality for Bollywood articles I welcome you on board to develop some of our stubs on very notable Bollywood films into fuller articles, maybe help develop some of them to GA? [edit] Art Blakey discography

Godd stuff on the discography although i would probably do it chronologically rather than by label with the labels noted - just my preference.

In answer to your question At the Jazz Corner of the World and Meet you at...] are two seperate albums (each of two volumes - so four seperate albums really). I'd put one article in for each double volume as they are now more likely to be acesssed as the double CD versions... another job for my "to do" list. DISEman (talk) 01:27, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Categories for discussion procedures

You posted two categories at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2009 June 15: Category:Images of rappers for deletion, and Category:Incarcerated rappers ultimately for renaming. Neither was posted properly, because you did not post any notice of the CFD discussion on the category page itself. This is done by applying {{subst:cfd}} to the category. As there was actually a substantive discussion on the latter category, I posted the CFD notice on the category myself and relisted the discussion here. However, you not only failed to post a CFD notice on Category:Images of rappers; you also failed to explain why you thought it was an "improper" category, and then failed to respond to a request for an explanation. I simply closed that CFD as improperly posted. Before you post another CFD, please read through the procedures at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion to ensure you are following all the required steps. Thanks for your note. I suppose you mean my latest crusade to put the recording year first in the discography sections - as at Sonny Rollins. Can't remember offhand the MoS on that one, but have seen that particular format at many articles (see above) and think it is far more effective as a chronological list than starting with the album title. I suppose that if there is consensus or MoS guidelines against it I'll have to toe the line, but I reckon it works nicely. Feedback? --Technopat (talk) 20:53, 25 July 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Re:

I disagree. The notability aspect is moot, as WP:N governs articles, and not content within articles. A complete list of artists for a label is encyclopedic, and is in no way inadvisable. Aside from all this, there's WP:REDLINK, and anyone with a full-length release on a label like SteepleChase has a high probability of meeting WP:MUSIC (and anyone with two releases meets it by default), so it's sensible to have them listed and linked. I don't see any problem with a list of artists, which is common, useful, and reasonable. Chubbles (talk) 01:03, 27 July 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy deletion nomination of Phalanx (band)

Ambox warning pn.svg

A tag has been placed on Phalanx (band) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for musical topics.

Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. [edit] Removing Speedy at Phalanx (band)

Ambox warning blue.svg

Please do not remove speedy deletion tags from articles you created, as you did with Phalanx (band). If you do not believe the article deserves to be deleted, then please do the following:

  1. Place {{hangon}} on the page. Please do not remove any existing speedy deletion tag(s).
  2. Make your case on the article's talk page.

Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the article. Thank you. - SDPatrolBot (talk) 20:02, 21 August 2009 (UTC)

Please see this discussion which is related to a proposed change to {{Recent death}}. An example of how this change would appear is on this userpage. --Brian McNeil /talk 00:17, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

[edit] George Russell (composer)

a person's death is not a portion of their biography

Although asking you to look through 645 featured articles, many of which show otherwise, would be cruel, I'm curious why you think a "death" section is not appropriate or standard. "Illness and death" sections are very common and acceptable. Viriditas (talk) 22:44, 2 September 2009 (UTC)
Just because it is common does not mean it is acceptable, and even if it is acceptable does not mean it good.Cosprings (talk) 16:07, 3 September 2009 (UTC)
You did not answer my question. To recap, you said that a death section is not appropriate for a biography. However, I asked you to take a look at our featured biography articles, many of which containe death sections. I then asked you why you maintain it is not standard, and now, acceptable and good. Looking through just the core FA biographies, we see it in use. Now, can you tell me why a section named "Illness and death" would not work for Russell? [edit] Merger proposal

I just proposed a merger of the hip-hop theat"re" page into hip-hop theat"er". Since you have edited this page in the past, I though you may want to contribute to the discussion here. You don't have to respond if you don't want to but I thought I should extend the invitation. Gbern3 (talk) 16:52, 3 September 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Michael Cochrane (musician)

The COI/Notability templates have been restored to this article. Your inclusion of a link to a Wikipedia page which is merely a list proves nothing. You have not proved notability or made any discussion about conflict of interest between the page creator who is also the subject of the article. Please use talk pages for discussion before removing such templates.Paul210 (talk) 19:56, 9 September 2009 (UTC)

I didn't say you were the creator of this article. The article was created by a user called Michael Cochrane and is about someomeone of the same name. Coincidence? I don't think so. Paul210 (talk) 04:57, 10 September 2009 (UTC)

[edit] West Wind Records

Copyright-problem.svg

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of West Wind Records, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://discog.piezoelektric.org/westwind.html. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 13:23, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Proposed deletion of West Wind Records

Ambox warning yellow.svg

The article West Wind Records has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Wikipedia is not a directory. Unless this article can be expanded with factual information about the label from independent reliable sources, it is not an appropriate entry. I cannot find any such sources.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.  Chzz  ►  13:29, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Greetings yet again!

Greetings Cosprings! I was going to propose you as an autoreviewer - basically what it means is that your newly created pages get automatically marked as good and don't show up as needing human examination on Special:Newpages, but thought I'd first ask you if you were interested. You can actually apply for it yourself, but I reckon it's probably easier - probably loads of Wikipedia bureacracy involved - if I get the editor who proposed me to do so for you. It's worth a try. Let me know if you have any questions... and keep up the great work! Cheers! --Technopat (talk) 12:57, 29 September 2009 (UTC)

OK - going for it!--Technopat (talk) 16:02, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
Done - eighty valid new pages in the last six months (at which point I stopped counting) is an impressive haul. Technopat's already explained what it is, so don't worry, you don't actually have to do anything to use it ;-) Shimgray | talk | 16:48, 29 September 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Circle Records

I reverted your edits here because you replaced the article with a new article about a different record label. I agree that the second label needs an article, but you need to properly disambiguate it instead of writing over the existing article. Chubbles (talk) 14:31, 16 October 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy deletion declined: List of bands with a frontperson other than the lead singer

Hello Cosprings, and thanks for your work patrolling new changes. I am just informing you that I declined the speedy deletion of List of bands with a frontperson other than the lead singer - a page you tagged - because: use WP:AFD if you think the article is not encyclopedic. Please review the criteria for speedy deletion before tagging further pages. If you have any questions or problems, please let me know. SoWhy 13:20, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Chuck Palahniuk

I think you did your best to reorganize the article with image position; however, this is not what I intended. Moreover, it became unbearably unstructured; it took me a lot of work to figure it out. Therefore, I undid your attempts, even though you tried the good; I recommend that you read the whole article before restructing it again. There are some highlights and references that must separate into its own new section, such as "Personal Life" (as it is yet to be created). --Gh87 (talk) 03:55, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Category:Sun Ra Orchestra members

This new category seems misnamed as the basic name of the band, although ever-varying, was "Sun Ra Arkestra". (I also feel that the recently-created Template:Sun Ra performs much the same function.) AllyD (talk) 16:39, 24 October 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Re:

I'm going to respond on the article's talk page in order to keep the discussion centralized. As for your other comments, I trust you can tell the difference between what I know how to do and what I choose to do. I spend far more time on this website that I wish to already; my chief concern is keeping notable things from being deleted and worthy infromation from being removed. The rest I leave to editors who like to do...the rest. Also, I'm not interested in edit warring and so will remind you of WP:3RR. Chubbles (talk) 16:06, 29 October 2009 (UTC)

[edit] AfD nomination of 2007 in hip hop

Ambox warning pn.svg

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is 2007 in hip hop. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/2007 in hip hop. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:14, 2 November 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Deletion of Artists' Names on Albums

Hi Cosprings. I see you've been continuing your great work on discographies, and I have no problem with the albums you added to the Shelly Manne article. (I do not, for one thing, feel it is right for me to delete valid albums that someone else thinks are worth knowing about; maybe my taste and others' are not always the same.) But it does bother me that you removed the artists' names from the albums Manne did as leader. I have restored them. I can see no reason why readers would not want to know or not care about the names of the groups those albums were recorded by. Some he did with groups called "Shelly Manne and His Men," others with "Shelly Manne and His Friends," and so on. They are not all the same, just because he was the leader. Also, and I think we've discussed this before, this is one case where any discography on the main article page would have to be "selected." There is no way we would want to list all of the thousands of recordings he was on in a discography on that page. We might not even be able to find out anything about many of them. If anyone wants to create a separate article "Shelly Manne Discography," that would be great, and we could link to it (I would do it myself if I only had a few spare years to devote to nothing else :-) And by not using the word "selected," we are misleading someone who is first learning about Manne, and who might get the idea that what is listed is all he did, or nearly all. --Alan W (talk) 21:38, 8 November 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Re:

We used to have a convenient schema for handing birth, death, and BLP in one template, which was BD/Lifetime. Both of these have apparently been deprecated, and we are thus left with the cumbersome task of adding birth, death, and life categories that are functionally useless due to size and seem to exist only for legal reasons. There are lots of editors out there who seem to enjoy the task of categorizing articles, and so I leave this to them. The time I spend here is devoted almost entirely to simply and quickly turning red links blue, which appears to me to be the only real lasting contribution I can make. Chubbles (talk) 18:08, 11 November 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Bill Evans discography

The tables kind of got screwed up with your recent edits... I wonder if you should maybe undo them and try again? I gave it a quick look and it's hard to find where they got goofed. What do you think? Thanks. Airproofing (talk) 20:32, 11 November 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply. There are some columns that are off with the label appearing in the wrong spot etc. and an extra column on the right hand side. Airproofing (talk) 20:36, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
Also... there are many, many discogs without the label name being repeated. Is the use of "rowspan" what you mean by complex html formatting? Airproofing (talk) 20:40, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
