[edit] Welcome! Hello, Aristophanes68, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers: I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Again, welcome! Yao Ziyuan 07:01, 13 April 2006 (UTC) If anyone is interested in working with Multi-Ethnic U.S. Literature articles, leave me a note here and we'll see if we can get a group together. I've found that Multi-ethnic lit is woefully underrepresented on this site, and it would be great if we could give it the coverage it deserves. If you want to see what needs to be done, run a search for your favorite author, book, etc. and see what kind of coverage it's getting. You might also search for the list of authors in your area, e.g. List of Asian American writers, List of Cuban American writers, etc. and see who's not listed and who doesn't have a page set up. You'll see how sporadic the coverage is! What to do: you'll probably want to sign up for a free account so that you can use a nickname instead of #s to sign your posts--and you'll need an account to create articles (but anyone can edit). To sign a post, simply add ~~~~ at the end. Then, for a brief cheat-sheet on editing pages, go to Wikipedia:How_to_edit_a_page. For creating pages, read the information at Wikipedia:Your_first_article. If you're creating a page about an author, consider using the Bio Template as a guide. Helpful hint: You may want to start by editing existing articles as a way of learning the ropes; use the "edit preview" button to make sure your changes look the way you want them to. And when you want to start an article, the two most important things to include (to make sure your page doesn't get nominated for deletion) are 1) a comment stating the subject's notability and 2) references and/or links to reliable outside sources (not necessarily online, but you can find a lot using Google Scholar and Google Books). You don't need a full article to start a page--you can always come back later to add more. A short description of the subject will suffice, as long as you establish the subject's notability and use reliable sources. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies. If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Getting Started | | | Useful Links | | | Miscellaneous | | | | Work Groups | | | Projects | | | Similar WikiProjects | | | | | | Hi, Aristophanes68, welcome to WikiProject LGBT Studies! We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying, categorizing, and improving articles of interest to the LGBT community. Some points that may be helpful: - Our main aim is to help improve LGBT-related articles, so if someone asks for help with an article, please try your hardest to help them if you are able.
- Most important discussions take place on the project's main discussion page; it is highly recommended that you watchlist it.
- The project has several ongoing and developing activities, such as article quality assessment, peer review and a project-wide article collaboration, all of which you are welcome to take part in. We also have a unique program to improve our lower quality articles, Jumpaclass, so please consider signing up there.
- If you have another language besides English, please consider adding yourself to our translation section, to help us improve our foreign LGBT topics.
- If you're planning to stay, have a square in our quilt! You can put anything you want in it.

The Biography Wikiproject has a subcategory for people who are affiliated with Arts and Entertainment, which includes writers. María (habla conmigo) 19:37, 6 March 2008 (UTC) - I am not affiliated with WP:LIT, so you should ask one of the members there if you have comments or suggestions. It is made very clear in the mission statement, however, that they do not currently include writers in their scope, so I would suggest that you cease adding the project's template to writer talk pages until a consensus saying otherwise has been formed. I've added the Morrison article to the Arts & Entertainment workgroup for now. FYI, you added the WP:LIT template to the article, not the talk page, which is incorrect, so I've reverted it. [edit] Infoboxes I like the infoboxes that you have created (if you created them), I saw the ones that you posted on some of the Puerto Rican writers articles which I created and man they look real nice. I noticed that in most you posted the info which goes inside the box, however in some you didn't. I have an idea. From now on when you post an infobox, if the article has an image, at least post that in the infobox and if the article is one that I created, I will post the rest with due time. Tony the Marine (talk) 02:09, 22 March 2008 (UTC) - I must remind you, unlike Afro-Americans, Italian-Americans and so on "Puerto Rican' is not an ethnicity, it is a nationality. Take care. - How do you change the world? You can start by writing an incredible article for the world's encyclopedia. Moni3 kicks it old school again with Stonewall riots - a series of spontaneous, violent demonstrations against a police raid that took place in the early morning hours of June 28, 1969 at the Stonewall Inn. [...] [T]hey have become the defining event that marked the start of the gay rights movement in the United States and around the world. It's a featured article hitting the mainpage this Sunday to mark the 40th anniversary of the events. So first off, wow! Clever and cool. Moni3 has been recently named hottest delegate to Obama's bookclub but that may not be official yet. (Shhh!)
Otto4711 mentioned that gee we really should swamp the DYK section with LGBT-related articles for use on the 28th as well. We have eight or so in the holding area and if you push yourself to get an article together you might be able to get in on the fun. Do this now! The official rules for DYKs can be found here. Once you have expanded an article 5-fold or created an article with at least 1,500 characters of prose, place your DYK thread here. Use this handy tool to count your 1,500 characters. As a suggestion, when you add your potential hook, include the character count and a link to the source(s) that confirm the hook. These will be confirmed anyway but may help. - Trans quotes needed for Portal:Transgender
The layout for the individual quotes is here (just copy/paste into one of the red links on Portal:Transgender/Random quote). Then this counter has to be upped to match the new # of total quotes (not counting quote zero). - Obama proclamation
On June 1, President Barack Obama declared June 2009 Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month, citing the riots as a reason to "commit to achieving equal justice under law for LGBT Americans". Excerpts at the bottom. - F*ck me I'm famous
I was interviewed by Wikipedia Signpost, the weekly in-house newsletter, for the WikiProject report. The Signpost has nearly 1,000 Wikipedian subscribers and arguably many of those folks actually read it. It came about rather quickly and my worst fears - that it was an elaborate hoax by a troll - were apparently unfounded. I hope y'all feel I did fine by the project, I did my best to avoid the phrase "man-humping, cock-sucking, doggy-style loving queer" but otherwise did ok. - Free image appeal
A friendly reminder to consider taking photos while you're out and about at various Dyke marches and Pride parades. Consider donating them to the world at Wikicommons. I'm sooo totally over having to deal with lovely images being deleted and argued about. If they are just free they are then also freely usable worldwide. And no, they don't need photos of your cha-cha or hoo-hoo-dilly. - Chaz Bono
Sonny and Cher's daughter was a famous lesbian and now he's a famous transman, possibly the most famous in the world. This also serves as a friendly reminder that we recently updated Wikipedia:WikiProject LGBT studies/Guidelines - it's not perfect but should help inform on those gnip-gnop battles that do seem to drag on, and not in the good way. - R U Popular?
Wikipedia:WikiProject LGBT studies/Popular pages is a new handy place to see which LGBT-tagged pages are the most popular in any given month. - Article alerts
As part of the redecorating at our talkpage, the article alerts and keyword search alerts are handily located at the top of the page. Always fascinating to see what's up. All help appreciated on those. - Glambert
Adam Lambert is soooo gay - surprised? Neither is anyone else. Nuff said. David Ogden Stiers was outed but apparently he wasn't terribly in either. - Community Quilt reminder
Wikipedia:WikiProject LGBT studies/Quilt - update it and add yourself! - Our own little IRC home
The LGBT studies project does have its own free Internet Relay Chat channel, #wikipedia-en-lgbt, for coordination, collaboration and socializing. This channel is hosted on Freenode and can be accessed in one of two ways: If you already have an IRC client, click the link to the left. If you do not have an IRC client, you'll need to get one installed on your computer first. Once you've done this, then click on the link to the left. For more general information on IRC and a listing of other useful Wikipedia-related channels, see Wikipedia:IRC channels. The project had at one point another channel at #LGBTproject but as the original people associated with the setting up and administration of that channel have seemed to have disappeared, this new channel has been set up. Plus the new channel is inline with required naming conventions for Wikipedia related IRC channels. So, feel free to use this channel. Such a channel gives opportunity to discuss the latest happening on articles, the LGBT project itself, latest happening in your life with "wiki-friends" here, etc.. You can say things on there you normally wouldn't here on Wikipedia (keeping it civil of course) like talk about the latest hot guy/girl or tell a joke.. you get the point. - I am still working on the categorization matter. With any luck, we should have some results by the end of the month. There are also some discussions regarding project related activities at Wikipedia:WikiProject Christianity/General Forum. One issue in particular that might be addressed is possible elections of new coordinators. Anyone interested in serving in such a capacity is more than welcome to indicate as much.

- The previous contests are still ongoing, because of the extreme amount of time the categorization is taking me. Anyone who can bring any of the few Stub class articles among the project's 1000 most often accessed articles by the end of July will get an award. Please see the details Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Christianity#Project challenge of the month.

Welcome to the Tenth issue of the WikiProject Christianity newsletter! Use this newsletter as a mechanism to inform yourselves about progress at the project and please be inspired to take more active roles in what we do. It has been a long time since the last coordinators election. There is a lot for people to do, and I certainly would welcome seeing any individuals with an interest in such a position put themselves forward as candidates. I in particular would very much like to see some degree of "specialization" in the coordinators, so that, for instance, we might have someone knowledgable about some of the specific Christian faith traditions or other main subjects, like Orthodoxy, Lutheranism, Mormonism, the Jehovah's Witnesses, art, theology, and so on. If any parties who have experience with some of our faith- or- subject-based content would be interested in being candidates, I would love to see them do so. Please feel free to take part in the discussion regading what the minimum number of category items is, and how to deal with the non-qualifying categories, on the General Forum page. - The Christianity project and its related projects currently have 75 FAs, 8 FLs, and 147 GAs, with a net loss of one FA and one GA. Our thanks to those who helped keep some other articles listed, and to those who have worked so diligently in improving all of our articles.
- Member news
- Three new members joined this past month, including new members User:116Calvinist, User:Lrnngrbc, and User:Frazz, bringing us up to 295 listed members. Thanks to you all, and a special welcome to our new members!
- Other news
- Two new pages for the benefit of members of the project have been created. Wikipedia:WikiProject Christianity/Mutual aid society is designed to be a place where editors seeking specific assistance from other members can with luck find others who have the abilities or materials they need, and Wikipedia:WikiProject Christianity/Special collections is, at this point, the beginnings of a list of publicly accessible special collections libraries which our members might find useful. Anyone who lives near one of the collections listed is encouraged to visit them and see if they can find anything they would like to read or use to improve some of our articles. There are always some discussions regarding project related activities at Wikipedia:WikiProject Christianity/General Forum. I think the timing of the call for elections might have been bad (summer vacation, what was I thinking?), and have thus changed the period for individuals to run to be one of the project's coordinators. Individuals who have a particular interest or knowledge of specific fields within Christianity are encouraged to run, to serve as a kind of "unit coordinator" for that topic.

Welcome to the Eleventh issue of the WikiProject Christianity newsletter! Use this newsletter as a mechanism to inform yourselves about progress at the project and please be inspired to take more active roles in what we do. One area in particular need of attention right now is the content related to the Oriental Orthodox churches. Several of the topics within this field are of great importance, including the churches themselves, their histories, thinking, and some of the individuals associated with it. Unfortunately, the number of people who belong to the churches, and, correspondingly, the number of editors working on that content, is smaller than it could be. Anyone interested in helping to develop this content is more than welcome to look at the Wikipedia:WikiProject Oriental Orthodoxy page and seeing where they can help out. [edit] Page titles Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you recently tried to give Angélico Chávez a different title by copying its content and pasting it into Angelico Chavez. This is known as a "cut and paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is needed for attribution and various other purposes. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history. In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other articles that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen. Thank you. Hello, Aristophanes68. I just wanted to let you know that the reason this article's plot section has not been updated to include a lot more, other than my not knowing their complete history (despite having watched this show for years), is WP:PLOT. The reason I had cut it off the way I did was to keep people from adding more and more plot to it. I would not want this article's plot section to be close to Luke and Laura's. 22:38, 16 November 2009 (UTC) |
