Information.svg Please refrain from making test edits in Wikipedia articles, such as those you made to International Phonetic Alphabet, even if your ultimate intention is to fix them. Such edits appear to be vandalism and have been reverted. If you would like to experiment again, please use the sandbox or show preview button. Thank you. —Politizer talk/contribs 22:22, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

I don't know what would be causing the images not to show. But anyway, if you need to do tests like this and you can't use the preview button, then please copy the table to WP:SANDBOX or to the article talk page and do you experimenting there. You can then copy the working version back into the article once you're done. —Politizer talk/contribs 22:29, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

stricken out by Politizer; edit was not vandalism.Politizer talk/contribs 23:00, 22 November 2008 (UTC)
Sorry my fault, I misread it as vandalism. Martin451 (talk) 23:05, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Filmography tables

Please don't change filmography table formatting. The style being used in the majority of articles which have been converted so far is approved and recommended by the project. Removing proper formatting could be considered vandalism. Thank you. Wildhartlivie (talk) 13:40, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Adding spaces etc

I've left a detailed message on the discussion page. I'm not seeing any problem with the "quotes". They seem to be functioning exactly the way that they should ie. the quote appears on the line below. Amandajm (talk) 02:57, 8 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Ref desk

Actually you misunderstood. I had never, ever heard of tldr before, I don't think it's common except perhaps among a certain group of people of which I am generally not one and which I try to avoid. However I wasn't asking you what you meant by tldr since unlike some people, I am capable of searching so that combined with common sense told me that what I found from searching was right. My point of the question mark was too ask you what on earth you meant by too long too read since as I mentioned, I find it a silly comment under the circumstances. While it's your right to consider the comment inflammatory but I don't consider the initial comment inflammatory, nor was it intended that way. It was intended to point out that the answer could be found in one of the articles you linked to (indirectly) and therefore you might want to look in said articles to find the answer. It's quite a common response on the RD let alone the internet in general. As I've, if you find that inflammatory that's up to you but you might want to consider whether it's wise to get pissed off when people try to help you out after you ask them for said help. Nil Einne (talk) 08:04, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

NB While I usually disdain Google results, for something like internet slang, they are clearly appropriate. You may be interested to know that tldr has 89k results and 3.7k Googlge Groups. This compared to rtfm for example which has 4.3 million results (albeit some look OT), 500k Google Groups results and its on wikipedia article. Although for Google groups results quite a bit of them seem partly OT in some instancesNil Einne (talk) 08:11, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
I think it's pretty clear that the Ref Desk expects you to do at least a minimal amount of reading before you come to ask a question. If that wasn't clear to you before - let me tell you it now. It's actually the case that all we're really supposed to do is to give you links to suitable articles for you to go and read (that's what a bricks-and-mortar library reference desk does - they don't find the answers - they tell you what books to read). If you' already found the article and you're so lazy that you expect us to go and read them for you...well, that's just rude. If your attention span is so amazingly short that you can't skim through a couple of Wikipedia articles - then you stand no chance of getting anywhere in the real world of science and technology where you mostly have to read through books with hundreds of pages in them in order to find the answer. When a question is genuinely not found in Wikipedia - and you can't find the answer with a fairly rigerous Google search - THEN is the time to consult the RD. So - please expect RD volunteers to continue to tell you to RTFA because that's actually what we are there for. SteveBaker (talk) 17:34, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] English phonological history

You seem to have done most of the work in building the page Phonological history of the English language. I've made some additions just now, all supported by the works of Peter Trudgill, so I thought that I'd ask you what you think of them. Let me know. Epa101 (talk) 12:43, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Health effects of tobacco

Please understand that failing to link a measuring unit, pCi/g, does not equate to burdening an article with more cleanup tags. Nonetheless, the unit was been linked as pico-Curies per gram, which is a measurement for the amount of radioactive decay for a gram of material (e.g. polonium-210). If you have a specific request, however are unable or unwilling to conduct a direct edit correcting the article. Please use the talk page, tags do not necessarily tell people the what the issue is. ChyranandChloe (talk) 03:53, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

[1] the section (I think/reckon), if not the article, required general cleanup anyhow.96.53.149.117 (talk) 22:21, 6 March 2009 (UTC)
Let's keep the comments on your page. This article has been cleaned up tremendously. If you would look in the History tab (next to edit this page), you can find the past versions of the page. As early as August of last year this is what the article looked like [2]. Nonetheless, it's very difficult to "cleanup" the article unless you can give specifics. ChyranandChloe (talk) 03:37, 7 March 2009 (UTC)
Even though it was cleaned up from August, it still requires cleanup.96.53.149.117 (talk) 20:37, 11 March 2009 (UTC)
