Vectorization. I often convert raster images to SVGs – it's called "vectorization" (at least by me). Inkscape has a tempting function called "Trace Bitmap", but don't use it. It leads to horrible results: straight lines not being straight, corners being Bézier curves instead of nodes, and the whole thing having just way too many nodes in general. Instead, import the bitmap and lock the layer. Then create another layer on top of it and manually trace the shapes with the straight/Bézier tool. You may need to change the outline color to a more visible one, such as bright red.

Coordinates. Obtaining coordinates for places with Wikipedia articles – i.e. geotagging – is just as manual. Start up Google Earth and enter the article name you're searching for into the search box. This may already give you the exact location or at least some place to start at. When pinpointing anything smaller than a city or an administrative region, always look for a good visual; don't trust any placemarks that may show up in the search. Try to Google for photos and look for similar objects – in a similar surrounding – in the satellite view. Dive into the Street View. Try to find maps of the location, directions, or any other hints by Googling or from the website of the subject. Add a Placemark on top of the target and copy/paste its coordinates into GeoLocator. Remember to set the type parameter. If not sure about the exact location, don't add any coordinates.
