This is to convert Gregorian calendar dates to dates in Julian-day-type systems.

y = year
- The year uses astronomical year numbering, i.e. n AD = n; n BC = -(n-1)
m = month (January = 1, ... December = 12)
d = day of month
k = a constant (see table below)
p = (see formula)
r = the result
