Unterföhring is a municipality in the Upper Bavarian district Munich.

Before the establishment of Munich around 1158 an important river crossing existed over the Isar, the Föhringer bridge. Unterföhring was mentioned documentary for the first time 1180 as independent place (inferius Feringin). Unterföhring was a component to the high pin freesings counting former county Ismaning. Since the realm deputation main conclusion of 1803 the place belongs to Bavaria. In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria the today's municipality developed with the municipality edict of 1818.

Unterföhring is one of the important media locations of Germany. Already into the 1950er years took place the settlement of the RIVA photometric enterprises. 1962 took over the Bavarian broadcast (BR) and the Second Channel of German Television RIVA Studios. 1972 followed those Taurus film, the later Kirch Group. Since 2000 is here also the seat of the ProSiebenSat.1 Media AG. In addition to that the Premiere AG and Europe of large operator cable Germany. One of the largest independent film production companies in Germany, the neue deutsche Filmgesellschaft, has their head office here. Unterföhring also is the location of ASTRA Platform Services which provides signal processing and distribution for about 250 TV and radio channels, and broadcast data services.

In addition, beside media enterprises considerable insurance companies are east the rapid-transit railway line S8 settled in the trade area Unterföhring. Largest employer is the alliance SE with approximately 6000 coworkers, under also different one the AGIS alliance Dresden of information systems GmbH, the IT-Dienstleister and subsidiary of the alliance SE) with a large computing centre and further societies of the alliance company.
