The University of Sagar (UOS), Hindi: सागर विश्वविद्यालय also known as Dr. Hari Singh Gour University, Hindi: डॉ. हरिसिंह गौर विश्वविद्यालय is a Central University (India) in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh, India. It was founded by Sir Hari Singh Gour on 18 July 1946, during the British Raj and is the oldest university in the state.[1]
[edit] NameThe University of Sagar is named after Sir Hari Singh Gour, who founded the institution.[citation needed] He was also the vice chancellor of universities like the University of Delhi and Nagpur University.[2] It is more popularly known by the name of its city, and hence it is called Dr. Hari Singh Gour University: University of Sagar, and it became the first Central University (India) of Madhya Pradesh.[3][4] [edit] ReputationThe university has more than 36 university teaching departments. The main campus of the university is located in Sagar City, and the university also has several affiliated colleges and a distance education wing. A medical college is being built in collaboration with the university to train students in the field of medical science.
