Graduate students of the department are employed in many areas such as telecomunications, hospitals, research and development laboratories, power stations, and schools. In addition to this ,there is only four Engineering Physcis Department in Turkish Universities. Each departmant focussed on different areas. These universities are Istanbul Technical University,Hacettepe University,Ankara University and Gaziantep University. Main Branchs Nuclear physics Atelier - Laboratory Infos Department of Computer Engineering Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering The purpose of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering is to provide students with a professional education, enabling them to study actively and participate in applied and practical research studies. The program encourages the student to be resourceful and think analytically. Laboratories are well equipped for practical courses. The degree of “Bachelor of Science” (BS) is given to the students who have completed the 4-year undergraduate program. This program, first established in 1977, gives the student the opportunity to specialize in the area of telecommunications, solid-state electronics, quantum electronics, power systems, microwave and antennas, high voltage and computer science. The department also has programs for the degrees of Master of Science (MS) and Doctor of Philosophy (PHD). Atelier - Laboratory Infos Basic Electricity Laboratory Electronics Laboratory Electrical Machines Laboratory Control Laboratory Digital Circuits Laboratory Telecommunications Laboratory Microwave and Antennas Laboratory Power Electronics Laboratory High Voltage Research Laboratory Microprocessor Laboratory Computer Laboratory Maintenance and Repair Center Digital Design Laboratory Department of Industrial Engineering Industrial Engineering (IE) is a diverse discipline concerned generally with the design of production systems, operations management and research (OR), ergonomics, automation, CAD/CAM, quality control, information technology (IT), artificial intelligence (AI) and systems simulation, etc. Industrial engineer analyzes and specifies integrated components of people, machines and facilities to create efficient and effective systems that produce goods and services beneficial to mankind. The IE focuses on "how" a product is made or "how" a service is presented, as well as focuses on the "way" those products and services are made. The goal of IE is improving the "how" and measuring the improvement by using two general criteria: productivity and quality. Since IE deals with the "way" something is done, the IE tools emphasize "methods" of understanding systems. The industrial engineers generally work with tools that emphasize systems analysis and design. Since production systems are found anywhere there is an attempt to provide a service, as well as produce a part, the methodologies of IE are very applicable. IE students take the same foundation courses in other disciplines. They also take some of the basic engineering sciences like engineering drawing, statics, strength etc. They take IE specialty courses in their later years. The IE courses also employ mathematical models as a central device for understanding the systems. The IE students take several manufacturing courses, which deal with manufacturing processes and other courses closely associated with the manufacturing. Therefore, manufacturing industry has and remains a manifest concern of the IE. Since a major component in any production system is people, the IE has also a "person" section. The human aspect is called ergonomics, although elsewhere it is called human factors. The IE deals with systems that are measured discretely, rather than metrics which are continuous, that is one of the most subtle differences between the IE and other engineering disciplines. This emphasis becomes evident in optimization of production systems in that the industrial engineers are sequencing orders, scheduling batches, determining the number of materials handling units, arranging factory layouts and finding sequences of motions, etc. They deal almost exclusively with systems of discrete components. Thus, the IE has a different mathematical culture. The undergraduate students also take courses in probability and statistics. IE specialty courses that follow these include quality control, simulation, and stochastic processes. Computer science and Internet have great potential impacts on the IE, like other engineering disciplines, ranging from simulation to distance education and remote machining. The IE students are always encouraged for team working and preparing good presentations. The students successfully completing their courses are awarded for the degree of Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in the IE. The main slogan of the Department of Industrial Engineering is as follows: "to manage resources effectively, study operations research, to make high quality products in excellent organizations, study production and manufacturing systems, to understand people at work study ergonomics, to excel in the 21st century, be an industrial engineer." Therefore, the undergraduate level of the department is composed of four basic areas; Basic Enginnering and Economical Sciences: Engineering mathematics, probability, statictics, economy, basic accounting etc. Operational Research: Includes optimization, decision analysis, stochastic processes and simulation. Manufacturing and Service Systems: Includes economic analysis, production planning and control, quality control, facilities design and world-class manufacturing, service systems design, integration of manufacturing process usually through computer control and communications. Ergonomics and Human Factors Engineering: Deals mainly with the human engineering. The Department of Industrial Engineering also offers courses leading to the degree of Master of Science (M.S) and PhD in the IE. Students with B.S., B.A. or M.S degrees in the IE or a related field can apply to these programs. However, students with a non-IE background may be allowed to extend their course work at the discretion of the adviser and institute. Successful candidates fulfilling the university requirements are awarded for the degree of M.S. or PhD in the IE. Both of the undergraduate and graduate programs of the Department of Industrial Engineering are arranged to encourage the students to become creative, cooperative, interactive and participative. Atelier - Laboratory Infos Simulation and Optimization Laboratory Work Study and Human Factors Laboratory Computer and Information Technologies Laboratory Production Systems Laboratory Department of Civil Engineering The department has been furnished with equipment for construction materials, land surveying, structural mechanics, transportation, fluid mechanics, hydraulics, hydrology and water resources to serve the needs of education and research. At present, construction materials, structural mechanics, transportation, soil mechanics and hydraulics laboratories have been developed to meet some percentage of the needs of the related curriculum. By making use of the facilities in the workshop and materials laboratory of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, these laboratories are used for instruction, graduate research and for expertise service to industry. Students successfully completing their courses are entitled to a ‘Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering’ degree. Practical experience is a must for this degree and accordingly, students are required to do engineering practice at the end of their first, second and third years and to have a satisfactory record of their practical work approved by the Department. During the fourth year, technical elective courses are offered to enable the students to further their knowledge in specific fields. A graduate program is offered in the fields of construction materials, transportation, hydraulics, structural mechanics, geotechnics and construction management leading to the degree of Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Civil Engineering. Department of Food Engineering Food Engineering provides the students with an engineering education directed toward the application of modern science and engineering to the process, manufacture, preservation and distribution of food products. The theoretical and practical aspects of food industry ranging from the quality of raw materials to the final usage of products by consumers are the main concerns of food engineering. The food industry is large and of considerable economic and social significance in Gaziantep, Turkey and the world. Employment opportunities at the B.S. level include production management, product and process development, process design and project engineering. Food preservation operations and food processing operations are examples of activities that require the skills of food engineering technologists and engineers. Therefore, students with this interest should select subjects to augment their background in chemistry, microbiology and process engineering. The department offers education at both undergraduate and graduate levels (M.S. and Ph.D.). The graduate programme aims to provide more depth and breadth to the undergraduate background of the students in different phases of food engineering such as food science and food technology. The Food Engineering Department has the following research facilities and laboratories: General Chemistry Laboratory, Analytical Chemistry Laboratory, Organic Chemistry Laboratory, Instrumental Analysis Laboratory, Food Chemistry Laboratory, Food Fermentation Laboratory, Enzyme Purification And Immobilization Laboratory, Microbiology Laboratory, Food Microbiology Laboratory, Food Quality Control Laboratory, and Food Operation Laboratory Atelier - Laboratory Infos Food Microbiology Lab. General Chemistry Lab. Department of Mechanical Engineering Mechanical Engineering is one of the oldest disciplines in engineering. It is very broad and ranges from aerospace equipment, automobiles, heavy machinery, through to manufacturing, production and management. Mechanical Engineers provide many essential services and products for contemporary society and are at the forefront in providing new technologies for the future. A practising professional engineer must have a broad and penetrating understanding of the relevant field in order to bring projects to a successful completion. This requires a strong background in science and mathematics as well as an ability to apply such knowledge creatively. The fields in which mechanical engineers work, cover design, manufacture, research, development, operations, maintenance, education and management. The curriculum is basically the same as that offered by the department when it was affiliated to M.E.T.U. leading to B. Sc., M. Sc., and Ph. D. degrees in Mechanical Engineering. Laboratory training is considered an essential part of the educational program. Besides the general laboratories, facilities for graduate research and industrial projects are also available Atelier - Laboratory Infos INSTRUMENT CENTER PHOTOGRAPHICAL LABORATORY MACHINE SHOP FLUID MECHANICS AND HYDRAULIC MACHINERY LABORATORY MECHANISMS AND DYNAMIC SYSTEMS LABORATORY EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN LABORATORY MATERIALS TESTING LABORATORY METROLOGY LABORATORY INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINES LABORATORY CONTROL SYSTEM LABORATORY THERMAL ENGINEERING RESEARCH LABORATORY METALLOGRAPHY LABORATORY COMPUTATION CENTER FUELS AND LUBRICANTS LABORATORY DYNAMIC SYSTEMS AND CONTROL RESEARCH LABORATORY ROBOTICS RESEARCH LABORATORY Department of textile engineering The Department of Textile Engineering offers courses with laboratory training leading to the degree of BACHELOR of SCIENCE.The courses are designed with consideration of the modern concepts of textile engineering education and new requirements of the industry. The rapid growth of the textile and related industries since the beginning of the last decade, and strong competition in these areas, have resulted in the establishment of new standards and requirements for the textile engineering profession;so it has become obvious that the knowledge and training of a textile engineering is no longer sufficient to meet the new responsibilities. Today a textile engineer is expected to perform research, development and design work in addition to assuming production responsibilities. He must be capable of evaluating new projects, competitive bids and of carrying out eceonomic analysis at an advanced level. They are expected to be qualified in the supervision of the operation of the plants.Their responsibilities range from the evaluation of raw materials to the competitive marketing of finished products. The program is designed to give students not only the fundamentals of modern textile engineering, but also introduction in a variety of subjects, both technical and nontechnical,so as to develop a broader view leading to a more intelligent approach to industrial and organizational problems.Along with the academic training, the students are required to participate in summer practice.
