The University of Chicago Medical Center forms a major center for medical care and research in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. Established in 1927 as the University of Chicago Hospitals, the hospitals are affiliated with and run by the University of Chicago, and serve as teaching hospitals for students of the institution's Pritzker School of Medicine. In 2007, the University of Chicago Medical Center was again ranked among the best in the country by U.S. News & World Report. The 2007 rankings by U.S. News and World Report included the following medical specialties: digestive disorders (6), cancer (7), endocrinology (8), neurology and neurosurgery (14), kidney disease (22), heart (23), geriatrics (24), ear, nose, and throat (25), gynecology (39), and respiratory disorders (50).[1] It is the only hospital in Illinois ever to be included on the magazine's "Honor Roll" of the 18 best hospitals in the United States, and has made this coveted list 10 times.
