The University of Angers is situated in the town of the same name, in western France. It was founded in 1356, closed down in 1793 and reestablished in 1971.

The pre-revolutionary institution in Angers is also looked at as precedental institution by the Catholic University of the West, and with both Popes and kings having granted charters to the Ancient University of Angers, it is not a clear predecessor institution to either of the current Universities in Angers.
